Hello October…

The Fall colors are showing nicely all around us.

Slowly but surely the boxes are getting emptied. We’ve made a trip to Habitat for Humanity with a load of stuff. We are replacing a lot of the indoor lighting with more efficient lighting options. Today Dear coiled and stored many of the outdoor hoses. There are probably 16 different hoses to reach the vegetation on our property. Spring and Summer of 2019 will be a learning experience for us. Fall and Winter should take care of itself as far as vegetation goes. We’ll need to figure out our snow plowing/clearing options.

Did I mention we have a greenhouse and a pond? We enjoyed some tomatoes and cucumbers that were ready to harvest when we moved in. We also enjoyed some sweet and delicious corn on the cob right from our back acreage. We have just under 5 acres here. I was happy that Dear found my muck boots in one of the bins. They are a necessary item to muck about in. Now as far as the pond goes, that’s another learning curve. We’ll need to come up with some algae and mosquito abatement options come Spring.

But for now…I’ll concentrate on the boxes.

In October I’m turning to Colossians for my daily reading. So rich with so much to mull over. Hope October is full of good things for you.

  1. A greenhouse, too?!??!?!? Oh, how wonderful!!!!!! I saw a lady working in hers yesterday while out on a walk and thought how great it would be to have one! What a great opportunity you guys will have to “get in touch with nature” with the greenhouse, the pond, and all the farming space! I wish I could play migrant worker for a year to help you!!! So glad you’re making such remarkable progress!!!!!

  3. Your property looks just beautiful Ellen! I have to say I’m a tad jealous about the greenhouse – what a wonderful thing to have. Enjoy all the newness that this place and season bring!

  4. Your property sounds a dream. FYI a few years ago we bought a Skeeter Vac from Canadian Tire hardware store $499.00 but worth every penny. We have no problem with mozzies even though we live near a creek. You might want to check it out come spring.

  5. A pond and a greenhouse! I’ve wanted a greenhouse for many years. That should be a lot of fun for you!

Thank you for sharing your autumn color with us. We don’t get a lot of it here in my part of the country.

I’m glad you are moved in. Lots to do; never a dull moment, eh?

  6. We’ll be packing up our hoses soon – forecast for this week looks like average day-time temps of 50 with some night-time lows of 28 to 32. Yep, autumn is here. (and almost winter!)

  7. Your yard is ablaze with gorgeous autumn colours. You have a lot before you but also have accomplished a lot. Nice to move in while the outdoors can care for itself and you can settle inside. I’d love to sit and chat with you on that deck. Nothing like outdoor quietness. I’m delving into Colossians this month too….lots there!

  8. In our pond we find that water lettuce or hyacinths help keep the algae down, and goldfish demolish the mosquito larvae. Love your colorful shrubs
