Robin at Pensieve has chosen this theme for today’s Fun Monday.
Quotable quotes and words that inspire.
Here are a couple of quotes for you. One from a Russian and one for an admired American.
“How easy it is for me to live with you, Lord!
How easy it is for me to believe in you!
When my mind is distraught and my reason fails,
When the cleverest people do not see further than this
evening what must be done tomorrow
You grant me the clear confidence
that you exist, and that you will take care
that not all the ways of goodness are stopped.
At the height of earthly fame I gaze with wonder at
that path through hopelessness-
to this point from which even I have been able
to convey to men some reflection of the Light
which comes from you.”
-Alexander Solshenitsyn
Solshenitsyn: A Pictorial Record, 1974
“All the masterpieces of art contain both light and shadow. A happy life is not one filled only with sunshine, but one which uses both light and shadow to produce beauty.”
Billy Graham
Day by Day with Billy Graham, 1976

I love listening to the sound of Billy Graham’s voice so I can just hear him saying that last quote. Very good!
I absolutely love reading quotes, collecting quotes. I’ll hop over to Robins and check it out. Thanks.
I too am a great admirer of Billy Graham. This quote reinforces something that I’ve realized over the years–a good life is a balance of light and darkness. how can we appreciate one without the other?
Good prospective.
great ones…thanks for sharing.
I loved both of the quotes you shared today. This is my very first Fun Monday, but I couldn’t resist the topic ;–)
Hugs and blessings,
I like the Billy Graham quote – sometimes it is so difficult in “the shadow” times that we forget that they are necessary in order for us to appreciate the LIGHT!
Hi Ellen, It is fun to visit everyone today and read all of your inspiring words or quotes..thanks for sharing..
The light and the shadow is indeed a very inspiring quote! Nice post!
The common thread between these posts is the analogy of God as light; Solshenitsyn has a quiet assurance that permeates his words. And BG? One of the “best” human beings on the planet…I’m so thankful for his ministry. I know he’s not perfect, but he’s consistent and THAT cannot be over-rated in this day and time!
Thanks for joining in this week with some deep and heady thinkin’ :).
How can you know the light if you’ve never seen the dark? Billy Graham had it pegged.
My mother used to be a great admirer of Billy Graham. The A.S. quote is quite profound.
Let your Light shine – some great quotes
Both great quotes!
Very interesting quotes you gave us! Thank you!
Great choice – both are very inspiring.
yes… a painting is pretty flat without the shadows. Makes one think .
Amazing quote by Solshenitsyn
I love Billy Graham’s quote. Wow! But the Lord has no shadow, no shifting light!
Jennifer
