Dinner for Forty!

We’ve been sharing a Thanksgiving meal at the Spiro house for many years. They have always generously included any Thanksgiving company we might have. This year with their extended family, friends, and our group there were 40 for the meal.

This is the young adult table in the kitchen area of the home with places for 14. You can see the Puget Sound out the window. The older adult table is in the dining area and seated 20 this time around. The kids table was in the foyer with places for 6.

My brother Tim and his wife Letty are staying with us for the holiday.

My BIL Steve, Tim, Letty, and my sister Lana.

My friend Jan with my sister Lana.

Two of the 3 Spiro girls, Lucy and Bridget with Bridget’s youngest little guy Oliver.

I missed getting photos of our host and hostess and lots of the other 40 people. Some years I’m on, some years not so much.

Photobucket replaced all my photos with ugly black and grey boxes and they are holding my photos hostage until I pay them lots of money. I’m slowly going through all my posts and trying to clean them up and replacing some photos. Such a bother.

Goodbye Snow…

…hello rain!

Well all this white stuff has disappeared and we have had some heavy rains. Our temps are well above freezing so it’s all systems go for our annual day after Thanksgiving girls day. We are sticking to tradition and going to Goodwill, then Tea, and then Country Village for some specialty shopping, too. Fun times! Just in case you were concerned about the men folk here, no worries. The girls are shopping and the guys are shooting. It’s a win win situation.

In the Good Ole U.S.A….

…it’s just about time to say…

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day tomorrow. Wherever you are and whatever you are doing I hope that thankfulness fills your heart! My Thanksgiving company has arrived and I’m just not sure if you’ll see me around bloggy world. Blessings!

Psalm 100 (ESV)

His Steadfast Love Endures Forever
A Psalm for giving thanks.

Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth!
Serve the LORD with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!

Know that the LORD, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!

For the LORD is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

Snow Is…

…Always A Major Event Around Here!

Woke up to this scene looking out my stairwell window.

The welcome mat

Our front walk with just enough snow not to bother shoveling.

I like the new snow blooms!

What are we in for:

Sitting at home avoiding the icy roads and spin outs.

Canceling any appointments.

Hours and hours of weather news on all our major channels.

Overeating- I don’t know why it just happens.

Spiking stuff like eggnog, etc.

Talking about the snow to anyone we see.

Pulling out all the wool and boots and gloves!

Hoping that our power does not go out.

Have a good day y’all. You know where you can find me.

I’m linking up to Susan’s Outdoor Wednesday.

Thanksgiving Is…

…a time to gather family and friends around the table.

Thanksgiving at our house is a very traditional meal with few changes if any. We stuff the turkey because we enjoy the taste of the stuffing that cooks in the bird. We include mashed potatoes to go with the gravy. One thing that would cause an uprising around here is if I left out the the candied yams smothered with marshmallows that get browned in the oven. Cranberry sauce is good for color. This year I added some steamed green beans stir fried with onions and bacon. Dessert always must include a few pies like pumpkin, pecan and a fruit pie. Truth be told I don’t bake pies, gasp! My dear friend Beth volunteered to bring the pies after I asked her to and they were really good! Thanks Beth.

We celebrated early this year since our kids were all available on this Sunday.

We take time to thank God for loving family and good friends and all His goodness to us. What a blessing to sit around the table with loved ones and enjoy good food together.

The girls…

The guys…

Dan’s friend Jamie since 2nd grade with his sweet family.

Jamie’s parents, Dave and Beth with Dan. Good friends since Dan and Jamie became friends in elementary school.

We tried a fall champagne punch.

The sugared rim was fun.

At the end of the festivities we loaded up on the couch to watch the Major League Soccer semi-final between L.A. Galaxy and Dallas.

Can you count all the pairs of feet?

I’ll post more photos of the table for Tablescape Thursday.

In a Bit of a Fog…

Not quite sure how much to blame on the “turkey effect” or just the activity involved in getting the turkey to the table.

As soon as I have access to my cord to upload some photos from our Thanksgiving meal yesterday I’ll share.

Hope your new week is starting out well.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Psalm 28:7 ~

The LORD is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and I am helped.
My heart leaps for joy
and I will give thanks to him in song.

Господь–крепость моя и щит мой; на Него уповало сердце мое, и Он помог мне, и возрадовалось сердце мое; и я прославлю Его песнью моею.

The Turkey is Out of the Oven…

Over the years we have learned to adapt to whatever comes our way during the major holidays. Sometimes I make a turkey on Thanksgiving sometimes not. This year I made my turkey today, Tuesday with all the trimmings. My daughter and I very unceremoniously had a plate full of comfort at about 5 pm. After 9pm I’m headed to the airport to pick up Dear and my brother and his wife for the extended weekend. If they are hungry they’ll have a turkey snack before we retire.

On Thursday we are invited to friends for our Thanksgiving Day meal. I’ll bring my yams and an appetizer. Every other year all the married kids have their meal with the in-laws. This is the year that all the married kids will be together with the rest of us so we’re expecting 39 for dinner. My family contributes 9 bodies to the table this year.

On Saturday our oldest son and I will fly to New Mexico to attend our middle son’s graduation from Academy. We will be gone till Tuesday.

So all this to say ellen b. won’t be doing her usual visiting and posting. I do have a couple auto-posts ready but my fingers won’t be hitting the keyboards until next Wednesday.

Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving extended weekend or regular weekend if you live outside the U.S.  May God richly bless all your comings and goings…

Drip, Drip, Drip…

It’s still pretty drippy around here with some dry spells and sunshine here and there. Perfect weather for housework and getting things ready for the Thanksgiving festivities.

And for our Canadian friends who have celebrated Thanksgiving already perfect weather to get a head start on preparations for Christmas.

Today I’m headed for a 6 mile walk with my friend Jody rain or shine. Hope you have a relaxing Saturday…
