Outdoor Wednesday ~ Narnia?

When I was at Snoqualmie Falls last week I was reminded of Narnia in The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

The children stared at each other.”

“I don’t know that I’m going to like this place after all,” said Susan.

“Who is the Queen, Lu?” said Peter. “Do you know anything about her?”

“She isn’t a real queen at all,” answered Lucy; “she’s a horrible witch, the White Witch. Everyone – all the wood people- hate her. She has made an enchantment over the whole country so that it is always winter here and never Christmas.”

No worries though the White Witch hasn’t enchanted all of Western Washington yet and we will have Christmas!

Outdoor Washington State!

Time to travel around the Blogisphere and see the great outdoors!  Susan at A Southern DayDreamer is our hostess for this weekly event.

On Saturday I flew from our Condo in California to our home in the state of Washington. It’s been good to be home.

Here’s a view of the Maple tree that drops all it’s leaves on our lawn in Fall. It’s our neighbor’s tree but we get to enjoy it and suffer from it! On a really wet day I took the photo on the left. The window was dripping with raindrops so the tree is blurry. Today the sun peeked through and gave a different view.

My daughter’s 2nd class of the day was cancelled so she and I took advantage of the extra hours and went shopping on the Eastside of Lake Washington and also went in search of some remaining fall color.

It really was a beautiful day. We arrived home and I decided it would be good to take advantage of a little dry spell and mow the lawn for the last time this Fall (or we hope it will be the last time). We were wondering if we’d be able to get the lawn mower started since it hasn’t been started for quite a while. Well…between the two of us we got it to roar and then we said “I am woman, hear me roar!” You see until next week it’s just the two of us ladies around the homestead. I managed to get most of the lawn done before the raindrops came falling on my head. By the time I was done I was soaked but happy to have gotten the job accomplished! When I came inside I told my daughter that I felt like I had just finished my “last chance workout!” If you watch The Biggest Loser you’ll understand what I mean.  Here’s a little bit of unexpected color I still have in my yard…

Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone!

Outdoor Wednesday ~ The Getty Museum

Boy do these weeks just seem to be flying by. It’s time for Outdoor Wednesday again. So visit Susan at A Southern DayDreamer to see the outdoor world through the lens of bloggers.

Last Friday 3 of us bloggers got together at The Getty Museum in Los Angeles. The Getty sits high above Brentwood in the Santa Monica Mountains. We had great views this day of the Pacific Ocean, Catalina Island, Santa Monica, Westwood, The Miracle Mile. We could see all the way to Downtown Los Angeles.

This is Willow from Willow’s Cottage and me. Behind us you can see the Miracle Mile on Wilshire Blvd.

Sara from Much Ado About Something has a great post that talks about the architecture and amazing travertine marble used in the structures at the museum.

The travertine blocks are rough and filled with crystalline deposits and fossils.

Our time was at it’s end and Willow and I headed back North on the 405 fwy over the Sepulveda Pass and Sara headed south on the 405 fwy.

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Adolfo Camarillo…

Welcome to Outdoor Wednesday hosted by Susan at A Southern DayDreamer.

On Sunday we attended the Celebration of Adolfo Camarillo’s 145th Birthday. Our town is named after him. He donated a lot of land to the city and to the county. The highschool was built on land he donated and is called Adolfo Camarillo Highschool. The Party was at the historical home he built for his family in 1892.

The house and gazebo were decked out for the festivities. Cake and punch were served.

The Adolfo Camarillo High School Marching band was in attendance and among other songs played Happy Birthday.

Some of the famous Camarillo White Horses were in attendance. To see more photos of the horses with links about their history click here. I’m also including a photo of Adolfo Camarillo on his Camarillo White Horse.

There is a huge Morton Bay Fig tree, native to Australia on the property. The grounds are lovely and weddings and other functions are held here.

I’m including a few shots from the inside of family home. It is decorated for Fall right now and soon it will be redecorated for Christmas. I did not leave empty handed from the celebration but I made this sweet little purchase…

Friends of the Camarillo Ranch House were selling some country wares to help support the house.

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Cloudy Walks

Early Saturday morning Dear and I had a cool cloudy walk at Emma Wood State Beach in Ventura, California. Then on Tuesday morning Willow and I joined 3 gals for a walk at the Blueberry Farm.

What a difference a week makes. Last Tuesday Willow and I walked on her friend’s Blueberry Farm and the Skies were clear and blue. This Tuesday we walked the Blueberry Fields again this time hurrying before the rains came down.

There’s Willow way back there. We had a fun little crowd walking this day.

I thought this mushroom was very cool…

At the end of our walk we tasted 3 or 4 different varieties of Blueberries. Yum!

Tuesday Afternoon in Vancouver, B.C.

Tuesday, afternoon,

Tuesday, afternoon,
I’m just beginning to see,
Now I’m on my way,
It doesn’t matter to me,
Chasing the clouds away.

Something, calls to me,
The trees are drawing me near,
I’ve got to find out why
Those gentle voices I hear
Explain it all with a sigh.

I’m looking at myself, reflections of my mind,
It’s just the kind of day to leave myself behind,
So gently swaying thru the fairy-land of love,
If you’ll just come with me and see the beauty of

Tuesday afternoon.
Tuesday afternoon.

Tuesday, afternoon,
I’m just beginning to see,
Now I’m on my way,
It doesn’t matter to me,
Chasing the clouds away.

Something, calls to me,
The trees are drawing me near,
I’ve got to find out why
Those gentle voices I hear
Explain it all with a sigh.

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Stage Coach Inn Museum

Outdoor Wednesday is hosted by Susan at A Southern DayDreamer. Visit her to join in or to see more Outdoor scenes around the world.

I’ve seen signs for this historical sight in Thousand Oaks, California for a few years now and finally decided to stop and have a look. This historical information was copied from The Stagecoach Inn Museum Website.

The original Stagecoach Inn was called the Grand Union Hotel and it was built in 1876. It was moved from it’s original location closer to the Ventura Fwy. to this property further West on Ventu Park Road.

This is a collage of the Inn and the Schoolhouse built on the sight to portray a School from the 1890’s.

This schoolhouse built on the grounds is a replica of a 1890 Schoolhouse. The contents of the room and its dimensions were found in historical records.

The Tri-Village, made up of replicas of a pioneer home, a Spanish-Mexican adobe and a Chumash Ap (tule dwelling). It represents the three historic eras in the Conejo Valley.

No photos were allowed in the Museum itself but each room is filled with great histiorical period pieces some original to the Hotel or the owners over the years. There is one room full of gramophones and gramophone accessories. It really is worth a visit.

Thanks for stopping by and now I’m off to your Outdoors!

Outdoor Wednesday

It would be fun to be enjoying the outdoors from this cozy looking Bed & Breakfast in Cambria, California.

But alas that will have to wait till sometime in the future if the Lord wills. In the meantime we spent a few hours here, the famous Rose Bowl Flea Market!

The morning started overcast and on the cooler side which was nice for us. Then at about 1:00 P.M. the sun broke through the gloom and it was fierce. We were all done with what we wanted to see so we headed for our air conditioned drive home! I was a good girl and only spent $15.00 for two items. Being an avid thrifter I find the prices for smaller items to be too high at  flea markets. The furniture and larger items seem to be a better bargain then the little stuff.

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Morro Bay & Cambria

It’s time to visit Susan at A Southern DayDreamer to see the outdoor world around the blogisphere. Thank you Susan!

This is the amazing Rock at Morro Bay that is called the Gibraltar of the Pacific. With an extra day this past weekend because of Labor Day Dear and I drove up the coast of California on Saturday to escape the heat and bad air in Southern California.

It was a beautiful breezy day on the Central Coast of California. We had breakfast in Morro Bay, then walked around the Rock and the bay. We spent some time in the downtown area antique and thrift store shopping.

This Pelican almost landed on my head on his descent.

Instead of heading home we decided to drive North a little farther to the beach community of Cambria.

We enjoyed the ambiance of this town. There were pretty gardens and fun shops to walk through.

After our stroll through town we headed down to the beach and had a brisk windy walk.

We left home at 7:00 A.M. and arrived back home at 8:30 P.M. It was a full day!
