Tablescape Thursday ~ In the Yard!

When I was at my home in Washington State I thought it would be fun to do a tablescape outdoors. The weather was lovely and I raced against the setting sun to set this table in my front yard. The neighbors are probably wondering about me…

This is a vintage tablecloth that my MIL had in her stash. The hobnob little clear & milky plates are from Dear’s Great, great aunt Emma. The old silver flatware is from Dear’s parents too.

We bought these beautiful daffodils at Pike Place Market in downtown Seattle. I loved the fullness of them and the added orange.

Oh and looky here Jack Sparrow and Sparra Queen Warbeak made it into an actual tablescape!

Window Views ~

Well Mary the Professor has come up with another fun weekly photo challenge meme. Here’s what she says…

“I’ve always been fascinated by all kinds of windows. And photographing them from the outside or the inside has been fun for me. Will you join me?”

You can post:

house windows,
castle windows,
stained glass windows,
old windows,
new windows,
animals or people looking out of windows,
views through windows

Here are the rules:

Post your own photographs
Describe your photographs and the circumstances of taking your pictures if you want to
You may post as early as Wednesday at 4 o’clock EST (that’s when I will post)

Have fun!

This was taken at Cafe Noveau in Ventura, California a few weeks ago. Every now and then I head North to Ventura to shop their Main Street Thrift stores. I decided to stop here for a little breakfast before I hit the shops.

WFW ~ 2 Timothy 4: 1-5

2 Timothy 4:1-5 (English Standard Version)

2 Timothy 4

Preach the Word

1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. 5As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Washington State

My walking buddies and I have been walking this trail along the Sammamish River in Washington every Saturday for years now. I miss a lot of Saturdays these days because I’m living in Southern California right now but when I travel back to Washington we meet again on Saturday mornings at 9:00 and walk our 6 miles. Jody and Jan still walk the trail while I’m in California.

Isn’t this chubby little bird cute? I was so pleased it sat still till I could zoom in and get a photo.

2nd Time Around ~ Oscar de la Renta!

Diane at a Picture is Worth a 1,000 Words is the hostess of this weekly event. It’s been a while since I’ve played, not since I’ve shopped 2nd hand mind you but since I posted about my thrift store shopping excursions. While I was at my home in Washington State last week I found this dress that I knew my daughter would love. It was pricey for what I usually spend at Goodwill but I thought that if it fit her it would be a steal at $19.97!

Here are some close-ups of some of the detail. The dress is 100% Silk. The trim on the skirt is feathers, Pheasant Feathers. The pleating and stitching is beautifully done. It fits my daughter perfectly.

My daughter went to the Oscar de la Renta website and found similar dresses to this (none exact) that were selling for $3900-$4600!

She is now antsy for an occasion to wear it to!

Facebook came up with these photos in my memories and I’m happy to be able to put them back in this post. The only photo that is missing is the closeup of the feathers.

Ruby Tuesday ~ Pike Place Market

Some Ruby I spotted while in downtown Seattle at the Pike Place Market last week…

Blue Monday ~ Seattle

Welcome to Blue Monday. This fun weekly event is hosted by the very good humored Smiling Sally.

My blue this week is brought to you from Downtown Seattle in the State of Washington.

I managed to get Dear away from all his projects at our home in Washington to have some lunch and a wee stroll downtown. See that building in the top left that looks like a tube of Ban Roll-on? That’s where Dear worked in Seattle for 7 years. We are back in Southern California tonight in our little condo where the projects are few. Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Metamorphosis Monday ~ Lawn

It’s time for Metamorphosis Monday hosted by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch.

Dear and I were at our home in Seattle for the last 10 days celebrating Easter with our kids and getting some things done around the house. While we were there it was time for the first mowing after the Winter lull in grass growth. So I’m showing the before and after shots that I took.

Don’t you just love the look and smell of a freshly mowed grass?! OK, Ok, truth be told we really can’t call this a lawn, it’s mostly moss and dandelions but all 1/3 acres of it is ours. Hopefully some day we can tear it all out and re-seed…

Dear and I are just back to our Condo in Southern California. We had some interesting flight challenges that put us in 2-1/2 hours later than we expected. Now I’ve got to replace my Seattle brain with my Southern California brain! Ejola!

To see some really great metamorphosis visit the lovely Susan at Between Naps on the Porch!

Come, Thou Almighty King ~ Hymn

Come, Thou Almighty King

Come, Thou almighty King,
Help us Thy Name to sing, help us to praise!
Father all glorious, o’er all victorious,
Come and reign over us, Ancient of Days!

Jesus, our Lord, arise,
Scatter our enemies, and make them fall;
Let Thine almighty aid our sure defense be made,
Souls on Thee be stayed; Lord, hear our call.

Come, Thou incarnate Word,
Gird on Thy mighty sword, our prayer attend!
Come, and Thy people bless, and give Thy Word success,
Spirit of holiness, on us descend!

Come, holy Comforter,
Thy sacred witness bear in this glad hour.
Thou Who almighty art, now rule in every heart,
And ne’er from us depart, Spirit of power!

To Thee, great One in Three,
Eternal praises be, hence, evermore.
Thy sovereign majesty may we in glory see,
And to eternity love and adore!

Words: Some sources show the author as “anonymous.” Others credit Charles Wesley, 1757. The words appeared in George Whitefield’s Collection of Hymns for Social Worship, 1757.

Music: Italian Hymn, Felice de Giardini, in The Collection of Psalm and Hymn Tunes Sung at the Chapel of the Lock Hospital, 1769. De Giardini wrote the music specifically for this hymn. Alternate tune: America, Thesaurus Musicus, 1744

In the days of the American Revolution a congregation of patriotic colonists were worshiping in their church on Long Island when the service was interrupted by the arrival of a company of Hessian troops. The captain stalked up the aisle and commanded the people to sing “God Save the King.” The organist started the tune that we call “America”; but the people, true to the cause of the American colonies and to their God, sang this hymn.

Belated Birthday Lunch!

The kids wanted to celebrate my March 14th birthday while we were all together so we headed to Downtown Seattle today. They chose Ipanema, a Brazilian Restaurant on the Harbor Steps across from the Art Museum. It was great to be all together before Dear and I head back to Cali tomorrow!
