More or Less Hodgepodge

My sister Vera, Me, and sister Kathy on the couch with our mom in the kitchen above us.

Joyce has some new questions for Wednesday Hodgepodge this week even with a house full!

1. What was your after school routine like when you were a kid?

To get home from the bus stop without getting jumped. (Okay…that only happened once) I made someone mad at school and they announced they would be jumping me at the bus stop after school. They had their own gang group of friends that were all excited to gather and watch this happen. Instead of getting off at my regular bus stop, I quickly jumped off the bus at the stop before my regular stop and ran home!

Growing up there really wasn’t a routine. Mostly we were on our own to fill the time before dinner.

2. January 26 is National Green Juice Day ( I guess it’s true everything really does have it’s day). Do you juice, as in make your own in an attempt to get healthy? Do you do the green juices? What’s your favorite kind of juice (home blended or store bought, either one)?

No, nope and nyet to green juices!

A favorite juice is fresh squeezed orange juice. I enjoy cranberry and pink grapefruit, also.

3. What’s something trivial about which you have a strong opinion?

Green juice! LOL!

4. What do you need more of in your life? Less of?

More of…

Less of…following my own heart.

5. Give us three adjectives to describe your January.

Jubilant ~ Joyous ~ Devoted

6. Insert your own random thought here.

We ventured to Spokane on Saturday to return an item to Lowe’s and do some other shopping. On our way home we stopped at our usual spot in Deer Park and were met with this special of the day.

We decided to try it and it was good. I had the soup of the day, Beet Soup, as my side and it was delicious.

  1. With you on the green juice- nyet (love that word, btw)! That is a funny story about the bus stop- you were quick thinking to get off early. And I love that quote by RC Sproul. Have a great day!

  2. I love beets, but have never made beet soup. I never see it on a menu either, just cold in salads usually, which I also like. I might have to find a good recipe and try a soup. My hubs likes it as well. Love the R.C. Sproul quote…have a great day!

  3. The beet soup is beautiful. I often wish I liked beets. There are very few things I truly dislike, but beets is one. On the other hand, the burger looks so yummy!!!

I cannot imagine the feelings you must have experienced with the thought of getting jumped on the way home from school!!

  4. Love the RC Sproul quote! I was just reading something similar this morning by Elizabeth George, that we aren’t meant to live as we please. The idea of following our hearts is so skewed. Our hearts are deceitful and will mislead us every time. I think somewhere in Proverbs it says that he who trusts in his own heart is a fool.

LOVE that burger 47! It looks delicious and I love that they wrote the description out in red, white and blue.

  5. I came home from school, changed into play clothes and go outside to play till supper time.

My mom worked and I was an only child so I was on my own.

  6. Ellen, humility is something I know I can use more of in my life and your choice of Scripture is a verse I am going to memorize.

Also enjoyed the quote by Sproul.

Your food looks delicious. I don’t think I’ve ever had beet soup.

Have a wonderful remainder of your day.

  7. I love the quote you chose. A little less of us and a lot more of Him is always the best combination. After school there was always a few chores like setting the table for dinner followed by homework. Then there was time to play outside before dinner helping to wash the dishes. That cheeseburger sounded amazing!

  8. Good thinking to jump off the bus a stop early! What a great story! That 47 special looks really good – even the beet soup, which I’ve never tried. But I like beets so why not? Hope you have a great week!

  9. That was smart of you to get off the bus before your stop. Green Juice…..that’s funny! I like your 3 adjectives. Yum on the burger.

  10. I think I tried green juice once but I prefer my vegetable on my plate! That a treasure of a photo of you with your family. Scary on the bus stop. I was a policeman’s daughter, I was given a whole barrage of threats throughout my high school years. A nice stop in Spokane. I had beets last night as part of my dinner. Absolutely love beets, the man in the house does not 🙂 Another delightful Hodgepodge, thank you Ellen.

  11. Love that picture of you and your sisters. That was smart to get off the bus at an earlier stop! I imagine your heart was pounding as you ran home. That burger looks delicious!
