This was how our four year old granddaughter felt the Nativity should be staged. I love her perspective. This was the very first Nativity set we bought. We found it at Disneyland in their Christmas shop sometime in the 80’s. We wanted a set that our kids could handle without fear of breakage. After a few years there was a mishap with one of the sheep losing a leg, the simple creche was broken, too. We have also lost the Shepherd’s staff somewhere along the years.
This week I’ll be sharing snippets of Christmas at our home with less known Christmas Carols.
O Sing a Song of Bethlehem
O sing a song of Bethlehem,
Of shepherds watching there,
And of the news that came to them
From angels in the air.
The light that shone on Bethlehem
Fills all the world today;
Of Jesus’ birth and peace on earth
The angels sing alway.
O sing a song of Nazareth,
Of sunny days of joy;
O sing of fragrant flowers’ breath,
And of the sinless Boy.
For now the flowers of Nazareth
In every heart may grow;
Now spreads the fame of His dear name
On all the winds that blow.
O sing a song of Galilee,
Of lake and woods and hill,
Of Him who walked upon the sea
And bade the waves be still.
For though like waves on Galilee,
Dark seas of trouble roll,
When faith has heard the Master’s word,
Falls peace upon the soul.
O sing a song of Calvary,
Its glory and dismay,
Of Him who hung upon the tree,
And took our sins away.
For He who died on Calvary
Is risen from the grave,
And Christ, our Lord, by Heaven adored,
Is mighty now to save.
Here was one of our beautiful views on the way to church yesterday. We had a joy filled service with the children’s choir singing and congregational Christmas carols and a sermon filled with hope. We love our church.
Your Nativity set is pretty. Love the last photo of the mountains and farm. Take care, have a great day and week ahead! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
…”God’s Country” looks mighty beautiful.
I love the arrangement of the nativity. It is a very pretty set just perfect for little hands! The photo of the scenery on your drive to church looks like a postcard – gorgeous! It is chilly in Alabama today – our low was 32 last night and our high is 55 today but but the high on Christmas Eve is 71 and the high on Christmas day is 66. How many months out of the year do you have snow on the ground? Merry Christmas to you!
Lisa, Snowfall varies here from year to year. We can have snowfalls as early as October but it doesn’t stay around for long. Generally November through February we have a better chance for snow. Last year we had a good snowfall on Christmas so we got to make snowmen on Boxer day with the kids. This year it looks like we’ll have more consistent snow. Generally we measure our snow in inches but there are years that we can measure it in feet.
Growing up in Southern California we had warm Christmases. It’s fun to enjoy snow now just so I don’t fall and break a hip! LOL! Merry Christmas to you and yours!
What a beautiful snowy view.
I love the way little ones re-arrange Nativities. After they leave I find that all the animals and characters are crowded together around Baby Jesus. It’s a great perspective. Enjoy the snowy scenes, they are beautiful.
I love how Addy styled/staged the nativity set! It’s a wonderful thing to hear that you love your church – one of the most important things. I have come to appreciate my church family so much!
Lovely that your creche is safe and happy for children! That is truly what Christmas should be about. Addy has the right idea — and so does her Grandma!! Merry Christmas to everyone!!!
Your children’s Nativity is so nice. The wooden figures surely are fun for little hands. Your view to church is outstanding. It certainly sets the tone for a peaceful worship!
That is so sweet!
What a beautiful snowy scene.
A great nativity that the kids can play with.
I always put the wise men across the room because they weren’t there for a couple of years later. 🙂
Yes, the men from the East took a while to travel to see Jesus. We aren’t even sure how many of them traveled. Could have been more than 3!
Makes me want to see how Jack would set up the scene. I have our Indonesian wooden set on too high of a shelf, but the little ones have always loved being lifted to see baby Jesus.
It’s touching to see Addy’s arrangement of the Nativity set of figures with, of course, the focus on Jesus. The animals seem to be bowing down. So sweet. The snowy scene is beautiful. Glad you could get to church and enjoy church fellowship. Here we keep in touch virtually and in the Holy Spirit. Christmas blessings to you and your family.
Definitely a new-to-me carol. Beautiful. The nativity set is really sweet — and apparently durable, having lasted a whole generation.
Not as beautiful as your wooden one, but we also have a nativity set that children can handle and play with. (It is Playmobile.) I love watching the grands set it up and listen to their narrations as they play the story!
