Light My Way Hodgepodge

1. Do you try to set rules for yourself about how you use your time? Explain.

Sometimes. Right now Dear and I have set rules on our eating and drinking habits. The rule is not to eat after five and not to drink after six. This works well when we don’t have overnight guests.

When I’m in a slump I like to use the fifteen minute timer rule. Set the timer and get busy for 15 minutes. It’s amazing what you can get done in fifteen minutes and sometimes this is just the kick start I need to get going and finish a project.

2. Monday was National Lighthouse Day. Have you ever visited a lighthouse? If not, do you have any desire to see one up close? Of the 10 Most Beautiful that made this list which would you most like to see in person-

We have visited a few lighthouses in Washington State, see collage above. These are from the far southwest edge of Washington, the Northeast edge of Washington and the Puget sound area of Seattle.

Lindau Lighthouse (Germany), Fanad Lighthouse (Ireland), Portland Head Light (Maine), Yaquina Bay Light (Oregon) The St. Augustine Light (Florida), Peggys Point Lighthouse (Canada), Start Point Lighthouse (England), Tower of Hercules (Spain), Bass Harbor Head Station (Maine), and White Shoal Light (Michigan)

I’d like to visit Portland Head Light in Maine and Fanad Lighthouse in Ireland.

When you’ve been away, what’s your ‘lighthouse’ telling you you’re on the right road home?

When we are on the road on a longer than usual trip the “lighthouse” for me is turning on Simonds Road and heading up the hill to our street and finally our driveway.

My spiritual lighthouse leading me to my ultimate home is Jesus.

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

3. What have you unintentionally stopped doing? Is this something you need to pick back up and begin again, or is it something you need to let go of for now (or even permanently)?

Counting calories and cutting down on what I’m eating has stopped because of our summer company. We’ve had three different groups of loved ones come from far away to enjoy time at this old house and what the Seattle area has to offer. I intend on picking it up again tomorrow since we have no more company coming, that we know of.

4. We’ve had a full week of August. Share a GRAND moment from your month so far.

We had a grand time on Lake Union yesterday late afternoon into the evening on an electric boat. I will share a full post about it soon.

5. Tell us one song you love with the word ‘baby’ in the title.

Baby, Baby by Amy Grant

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

I’m late to the Hodgepodge party as I’ve been busy with our latest company.

We won’t be seeing our eastern girls and our eastern son till September…boohoo. So thankful for text messages with photos attached!

See what others are posting for Wednesday Hodgepodge at From This Side of the Pond. I’m sure you’ll get to see Jo’s new little grandson who has freshly arrived this August!

  1. Hubby and I are trying to diet too at the moment but we’re doing South Beach so no calorie counting! Lovely pics of your family. You must be counting down the days to the next visit.

  2. Text messages or Instagram photos from the kids are just wonderful, aren’t they! Hurrah for technology! I think summertime is a busy time for nearly everyone. It’s surely the time of year when we have the most company – and very hard to stay on track with diet at that time. We’re trying to do ‘No sugar, No flour, No eating after 6.’ I think it’s pretty doable. But time will tell. 🙂 Have a wonderful day – and I know you’re looking forward to seeing the kids in September.

  3. I have GOT to get to the NW part of our country some day!!!! Such beauty!!! I like your eating & drinking rule, but that would never work in this house. Husband doesn’t even get home from work until around 7!!! It would sure help me to sleep a lot better, though, and maybe lose some of this weight!!! 🙂

  4. Yes thank goodness for technology! I’ve dropped the ball a bit on what I’m eating (too much sugar and carbs) Houseguests and travel haven’t helped. We never eat as early as five, but I’m not an evening snacker so once dinner is over I’m not tempted. I don’t know if I could get my hubs on board with a dinner time as early as 5.

  5. If you ever make it to the Portland Head Light, I want to know about it! 🤓 My! You folks have had a busy summer of hosting. Things may be winding down to a fine calm for a bit. Your daughter-in-law is so lovely. I think motherhood agrees with her mightily. And Addy is already in the bouncy thingamajig…getting her exercise as a good example for her grandparents. LOL!

  6. Dear Sweet Addy is growing! What a beautiful smile she has. Isn’t being a grandmother wonderful? Our son and his family just visited Portland Head Light this past weekend. He said it was pretty awesome. Love the picture of you and your hubby on your boat ride. I shall look forward to your full post about it. 🙂 We are living, breathing, eating fresh peaches here and one of the recipes I have marked for this week is Peaches and Cream muffins in the MGCC book! 🙂

  7. There really is something about summers that make you take off from your usual routine – like counting calories. I really like your idea of just setting a timer and starting. Maybe that would be the kickstart I need as well. Have a great week.

  8. I’m in the same boat – too many get-together’s with delicious food this summer and now I have to cut back. I love the ’15 minute’ idea! I’m going to steal that one! It’s been a long time since I’ve visited a lighthouse. They are wonderful – love the photos. You must be counting the days until you see that sweet little grand-baby once more. Love your banner photo! xx Karen

  9. I, too, like the 15 minute idea. It is a tremendous help to just get started on something. I like the “no eating after 5” idea too, but I am less likely to do that. Sigh . . .

Addy is growing all the time! I know you’re counting the days until your next visit!

  10. National Lighthouse Day – what fun! You have some great pictures. We have seen a few in our travels but never really took note or interest as we should have! We must have missed the Ireland one. Sounds like you had some lovely times hosting your loved ones so far this summer. I need to start using the 15 minute rule and also get moving and less eating!!!!
Addy is so adorable and really growing. I know first hand how precious those text messages with pictures are.

  11. I’m really impressed with your answer for #1 on time. Enjoyed reading your answers and I love the photos in your random.
