The Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Henley-on-Thames, England.
“The exact origin of St. Mary’s is unknown, but is likely to be around 1000, and the first recorded priest is Aumericus de Harcourt, in 1204.”

What wonderful views of this grand church…the ones from the water are great. Tom The Backroads Traveller
i love the flowery shots & looking along the river. so pretty. ( :
Beautiful! I wondered if the uncertainty about the building date may also have to do with the building style – it’s not 100% Roman, and has already influences of the Gothic period(which started 11-1200 )
so beautiful. i like the last one so much and the one that has the boat in the middle… so very old to still be there. amazing
forgot to say I like your header photo, what a fantastic place.
Hi Ellen, As always, I LOVE your pictures of this charming English village and church! In my mind, there is just no other place on earth that compares to England. 🙂 You are fortunate to have been able to spend so much time there.
Thank you for your visit earlier this week; I always love hearing from you! I hope you have a wonderful week, my friend.
Big hugs,
Denise
Thought you might have gone in the place. I still have to go over and revisit for my blog. You picked a good time as it was not heaving with visitors and now it’s raining
Bill, we arrived the day after the regatta and things had cleared out nicely. There was a lot of construction going on at the church so we didn’t go in…
Smashing! i went to a wedding in Henley a long time ago and can’t help wondering if it was at this church. Love the walls.
So beautiful. I love visiting these (Norman) churches. Are those personal punts on the river? Looks like fun!
A fine series devoted to this church. I like the other shots showing its setting too.
Thats a lovely church. I enjoy seeing churches like this because they are different from the styles we have in the US.
It’s a beautiful little church …
So pretty. That church is adorable.
