InSPIREd Sunday ~ Henley-on-Thames

The Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Henley-on-Thames, England.

“The exact origin of St. Mary’s is unknown, but is likely to be around 1000, and the first recorded priest is Aumericus de Harcourt, in 1204.”

  1. Beautiful! I wondered if the uncertainty about the building date may also have to do with the building style – it’s not 100% Roman, and has already influences of the Gothic period(which started 11-1200 )

  2. so beautiful. i like the last one so much and the one that has the boat in the middle… so very old to still be there. amazing

  3. Hi Ellen, As always, I LOVE your pictures of this charming English village and church! In my mind, there is just no other place on earth that compares to England. 🙂 You are fortunate to have been able to spend so much time there.

Thank you for your visit earlier this week; I always love hearing from you! I hope you have a wonderful week, my friend.

    Big hugs,

    Denise

    • Bill, we arrived the day after the regatta and things had cleared out nicely. There was a lot of construction going on at the church so we didn’t go in…
