I Love This Time of Year…

The beginning of the traditional school year is a favorite time for me. I’ve been absent from Susanne’s Friday’s Fave Five for a while but I wanted to chime in with some things this week that make my favorite’s list.

My exercise regiment has been totally non-existent for quite a while. It’s been hit and miss at best. Today I hope I’ve found some things to remedy this problem in my life. So here are my five…

P10506181. I’ve had a hard time finding a regular walking buddy since I’ve come back to Washington. If you are part of Susanne’s weekly fave five you know who Willow is. Well…she used to be my walking buddy when we lived in the same city in Southern California but since I moved back to Washington in the Spring of 2010 I’ve been without a regular walking buddy. Boo hoo. Today I joined up with a group from the Senior Center who walk every Tuesday and Thursday rain or shine on a great walking trail close to my home.

P1050624What a beautiful day it was to walk and a nice bunch of ladies. We saw this wonderful view of Mt. Rainier at our turning point on the trail.

2. After being encouraged with being out of doors and walking, I showered and headed to the Senior center to sign up for an exercise class that meets Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. I’m excited about my daily exercise commitment.

2014-08-29 August recap33. I’m happy to be done, done, done, with the Bathroom Renovation company. I’m looking forward to Dear finishing up the bathroom and sharing it with you all in the near future.

P10506135. Celebrating Dear’s birthday with most of our kids was another favorite for sure. It is so good to be together and enjoy each other.

I found a photo I took on September 11, 2001 and wanted to share it here, too. We can never take for granted the freedoms we are afforded here in our country and we can never forget that there are those who would love to destroy those freedoms. So thankful to God for his protection over us and that no matter what, we have a hope in our future that cannot be taken away!

What makes your thankful list this week?

  1. This time of year just makes me want to do all that I have not done over the summer..Good for you for walking and then joining a class..I need to get motivated that way myself. Many reasons for be thankful for..

  2. I love this time of year too. This is a wonderful post for this day forever called 9-11 – it gives us hope and encouragement. I too need to get into a much healthier regiment Ellen – perhaps I’ll join you in making exercise and walking a daily practice!

  3. Hope you enjoy your new walking companions and exercise classes! I like to exercise at home with some DVDs, but got off track when my little grandson was in the hospital and haven’t gotten back on. I need to.

So nice to be done with a renovation. They’re so nice when finished but often a pain during the process.

Hope the new little family gels well!

I love it when the family gets together for special occasions.

  4. Good for you on your fitness commitments! I, myself, have fallen badly by the wayside …

I’m so i agreement with you on being thankful for the freedoms we enjoy. May we never take them for granted.

  5. I am thankful for each day I spend in Maine. Today I will take a walk on the dirt road where I will hear the sound of water against the rocks and the rustle of wind through the trees.

  6. What a spectacular view of Mt Rainier, good luck with your commitment to get back to an exercise routine, I certainly have neglected mine this summer, and am finding it so hard to get back into a routine! Family celebrations are always so special and I look forward to those we can have as my family are scattered all about. You have a beautiful family. I apologize for my absence in blogging this summer, but it has been a very busy one!
    Enjoy your weekend,

  7. Your bathroom re-do looks great so far! Wishing you well with walking. I love to walk, but I walk mostly by myself. It gives me time to think (or not) or pray or just be. It’s my therapy.

  8. So glad you found a little walking group to get you back into a fitness routine. It’s always more fun when others are with us. I’m sure you miss Willow very much! What a gorgeous view you had for a reward! How nice that you had family to help celebrate the birthday! It always feels like the perfect gift when my little troop is all together celebrating something special.

  9. Wonderful list here, Ellen. Your old walking buddy sure misses you, too! I do walk regularly but it’s not always with the same person. I’m glad you’ve found a regimen that will work for you.
Hurray for your new nephew! They look like a very happy family.
