Some Painless Therapy…

Dear and I have decided to “cut our losses” and give up on the bathroom renovation being made right by the company we hired. It is better for our peace of mind to give it up and let Dear fix things that need to be done better. After several tries to get them to do things right we’ve decided no more. When you see the photos of the bathroom you will wonder what we are complaining about because you will see the beautiful cosmetic fixes. Unfortunately we had to live with the process and it will take some time for me to bond with the beauty of it all. When Dear finishes the painting and the rest of the window parts come in I promise to show you the before and after. Until then here is a sneaky photo of some wall art that is going to go up that I bought at Hobby Lobby today.

shop therapy 011Yes, a little shopping therapy was in order for today so I made stops at Hobby Lobby, Goodwill, and Trader Joe’s. Hobby Lobby had a 50% off sale going for all their wall art so I bought that metal piece to mount on one of the walls of the bathroom. A tree branch with birds.

shop therapy 009Their fall decor was on sale for 40% off so I bought these Place Cards that I’ll enjoy using at Thanksgiving.

shop therapy 008These Le Creuset ramekins were in the collector section of Goodwill marked at $14.95 for all 6. Because Wednesday is Senior discount day I got 20% off and paid $12.50 for all 6. I saw them at Williams Sonoma for $13.00 each. Now I’ll need to come up with a fun recipe to use them for. If you click on these smaller photos you can see them in their larger format. Speaking of Senior Discount day the employee at Goodwill who came on the sound system to remind us what discounts were available on Wednesday said “If you are 62 or Better you get 20% off” I love that and when I went to the register I told them I was better!!

We had a very nice evening on Tuesday celebrating Dear at a restaurant in Bellevue called Lot #3. They had the most interesting names for their drinks. I had a Left Turn at Albuquerque.

After dinner we took a couple family shots outside the restaurant.

Our son Dan is off hunting in the wilderness so he couldn’t join us.

Tomorrow is the 13th anniversary of 9/11, I’m praying that God protects us against evil…but that prayer is nothing new at this old house!

  1. Thankful Dear can work on their poor craftsmanship. 13 years….wow, praying that God will continue to work in the lives of those who lost loved ones. That takes time to process and move forward. Peace to them Father, comfort them as this anniversary can stir up great emotion. Be a Father to the fatherless, a husband to those left alone, a comfort to those in grief. It is a life long process that pops its head up and You alone can bring all things together, all that they need to live, not just survive. Thank You for all the days we have been protected and God raise the alarm of wisdom with current silly border issues. Give wisdom to the government and the courage to act.

  2. No weapon formed against us will prosper.. We are in perilous times and we must be alert and have our hearts prepared..our homes in order as they say. I am wondering what went wrong?? I have not been to a Hobby Lobby yet. There is one in Albany that is new. I love your wall art. I will have to check that store out. It’s so much fun to find treasures at thrift stores…

  3. Bernie can’t wait to learn what the bathroom issues were. So sorry you had such a bozo contractor. Ours was a perfectionist but our two month job lasted five+.

Retail therapy with discounts for merely riding the planet around the sun! Whoo hoo! I’ve been on the thrift circuit lately too. Such fun and the UT thrift shops are incredible.

Your drink is so appealing. We went out for seafood tonight, ate outside beside a river sipping a locally made liquor peach Cosmo. It actually had some giddy up! Whee! Won’t need to take shots during the you-know-who address tonight.

  4. I love your wall art Ellen! I wish we had Hobby Lobby stores here in Ontario. So sorry about your renovation troubles – it’s so frustrating! Your family pictures always have the best smiles ever. What a great looking clan.
It’s hard to believe that 13 years have passed already – the world was changed forever on that fateful morning.

  5. I really like what I see so far! The branch with the birds is so pretty and suites a bathroom.
Happy Birthday to Greg! Now I have a way to remember. It will be a special day for us now too.

  6. Oh my….that bathroom has been under construction for awhile…but I know that when Dear gets to it…it will be the best. I’m sure another holiday will be needed then. Nice decor. It’s fun to find those specials…way to go.

  7. I’m sure that your Dear will do a better job of finishing than any contractor.
How I wish we had a Hobby Lobby or a Trader Joe’s up here! I am tempted to make a trip south of the border, but that would be a bit foolish of me with all there is to do here!

  8. I love your wall art. Retail therapy is sweet, especially when you find good bargains.

I thought of you these past few days; I was in London for a quick meet-up with a friend – oh what fun!

Finally, amen to the prayers for peace and protection. Lord, hear our prayers.

  9. Oh – Ellen, seeing your “loot” make me miss seeing regular postings of your Goodwill finds!!!! 🙂 You seem to have done that more in times past…. I am in love with your LeCreuset ramekins! My little one would say “awesome sauce” to your great finds!

  10. Shopping is always good therapy. lol! Love, love the branch! I have a bird theme in my master bath. Don’t have any space left, but that is going to be so cute. The ramekins are fabulous. Love the color and yes, you are better!! Cute photos of your family!
    hugs,
    Jann

  11. I love your wall art, and your undermount sink. Sorry to hear it was more of a trial than a pleasure. But I hope you’ll be able to really enjoy the redo before too long.

  12. That is too bad about the renovation work not being done right but at least you will get it fixed the way you want it to be. Loved the sneak peek of your wall art. That drink looked yummy and it’s nice you had some family time.
