Truth for Today (Holy Week)

My usual Thursday Truth for Today will be a little different today because of Holy Week. If you have verses to share I will add them to the end of this post. Today is Maundy Thursday a day we remember the night Jesus was betrayed and the night He had the last supper with his disciples.

My Lenten Rose (Hellebore) in Kenmore appeared out of the cold hard ground every winter just before the season of Lent. I find it to be a humble plant in that it’s beautiful bloom faces down to the earth. I have to get down on my knees to capture a good photo of the beautiful bloom. It is a consistent reminder to me of our Savior and His humility in coming down to earth to live among us in human form. He took on our lowly body to be with us because of His great love for us. When I see my Lenten Rose come up I think of Jesus Christ’s humility and obedience to the Father in going to the cross and suffering and dying for all our sins. This is a reminder from nature that draws me to God’s truth in His Word, the Holy Bible, which leads me to worship.

Philippians 2: 5-11 (ESV) 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

On this day of Holy Week my prayer is that you will turn your eyes to our Savior and accept His sacrifice on the cross in faith, repenting of your sins and receiving forgiveness for your sins and and a new life of hope for your future in Him.

Excerpts from John chapter 13…

It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love.

Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;  so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.  After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them.  “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am.  Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.  I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

From Maristella:

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. Isaiah 43:18-19

From Vera:

”When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed.“
‭‭John‬ ‭17‬:‭1‬-‭5‬ ‭ESV

From Leonard:

Acts 2:22-24

“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it”

Jesus Said, April Bible Verse Challenge

For the month of April the challenge each Thursday is to share verses from the Bible that are a direct quote from our Lord Jesus. Since this is Easter week and today we think about the Last Supper, I’m choosing verses from the Lord’s last words to the Disciples before he was arrested and crucified. Feel free to share a portion of scripture to keep things in context. Share in the comments or on your blog and I’ll add your verses below.

Because our challenge is beginning on Maundy Thursday I’m switching my selections to these verses from John 13

From Vera:

“Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28:16-20‬ ‭ESV‬‬

From HappyOne:

Jesus speaking to the thief on the cross.

Luke 23:43 KJV

And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shall thou be with me in paradise.

Savior, Teach Me Day by Day ~ Hymn

Savior, Teach Me Day by Day

Savior, teach me day by day
Love’s sweet lesson to obey,
Sweeter lesson cannot be,
Loving Him who first loved me.

With a child’s glad heart of love
At Thy bidding may I move,
Prompt to serve and follow Thee,
Loving Him who first loved me.

Teach me thus Thy steps to trace,
Strong to follow in Thy grace,
Learning how to love from Thee,
Loving Him who first loved me.

Love in loving finds employ,
In obedience all her joy;
Ever new that joy will be,
Loving Him who first loved me.

Thus may I rejoice to show
That I feel the love I owe;
Singing, till Thy face I see,
Of His love who first loved me.
