It Is Well with My Soul

mom

It Is Well with My Soul

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Refrain

It is well, with my soul,
It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

Refrain

My sin—oh, the bliss of this glorious thought—
My sin—not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

Refrain

For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:
If Jordan above me shall roll,
No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life
Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.

Refrain

But, Lord, ‘tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;
Oh trump of the angel! Oh voice of the Lord!
Blessèd hope, blessèd rest of my soul!

Refrain

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so—it is well with my soul.

This was one of the songs my family sang in my mom’s hospital room the last couple days. We sang Great Is Thy Faithfulness, Trust and Obey, Bless Thou the Lord, He Lives and a couple songs in Russian, too. My mom had many ups and downs over the course of her time. The following photos show some of those ups and downs. Tonight she is home in her and my pop’s apartment on Hospice Care.

mom watermelon

The next day my nephew Tim brought this cut up watermelon for us all to share in the hospital room and my mother really brightened up when she saw it.

mom episode

My father is always at my mom’s side. This was another down episode my mom had. She could go from alert and cheery to very difficult periods.

mom blessing

She rallied again and was so intent on my father praying a blessing on Caleb and Marie who will be getting married on August 10th. She wanted my Pop to bless them in Russian and then she spent quite a good chunk of time giving Caleb and Marie some advice and counsel. She told them that they have to forgive each other among other things.

After I left for the airport and my family was waiting for my mom to be discharged my sister shared the following:

Yesterday as we were waiting for mom’s release process we were singing hymns and people were stopping by to listen. We then received a request to sing for a patient. After we sang and prayed with one patient, a nurse asked if we could sing for yet another patient! It was such a wonderful experience to be able to minister to others in their time of need!

I am home again and thankful that I could make a quick trip to Southern California to see my mom and pop and be with them through these hard days. My siblings and I were able to talk through some decisions we have to make soon and talk with my parents about their wishes and resolving to honor those wishes. We had wonderful times of fellowship in my mom’s hospital room praying, singing, reading, laughing, sharing with family and friends. At one point we had 19 of us crammed into her small hospital room. After that the staff moved my mom to a much larger room so we could have more space. The staff at St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton were wonderful and they offered us some great hospitality even when we were clogging their halls!

Now we wait on God’s timing for my mom’s life.

Thank you for your prayers. I appreciate you all…

Mom & Pop…

Tim and Letty picked me up at the airport and we headed straight to the hospital to visit my mom. Everyone said she looked so much better today than yesterday. We still aren’t sure when she’ll be released and if my mom and dad will attend the wedding. For Mother’s day I put together an album of photos from Katie and Andrew’s wedding for her and my dad. After we left the hospital our kids stopped by for a visit, too. For the record…my mother is hilarious on morphine. My dad is quite happy with his new bearded look. It was great to see both of them.

Friday night we attended the Rehearsal dinner at my brother’s house for Levi and Kristin. A beautiful evening with wonderful middle eastern food. I’ll be sharing more photos soon.

Oops I was so busy taking photos at the rehearsal dinner that I forgot to put sunblock on and now my cheeks are screaming at me.  I should know better…

Good night everyone. Have a great Saturday…

Update On My Pop ~

I just got off the phone with my Pop and he sounds good, tired but good. Anyone who has ever been in the hospital knows it’s not a great place to rest! They did an ultrasound and are waiting on doing a stress test. Some of the tests have come back negative.

So here’s what my Pop said to me on the phone. “You know Lyenah last night when I was awake I was thinking, I’m so thankful, so thankful for all these years and God never let us down. For whatever God did…all His blessings and guiding, for all my children, I’m so thankful. I cannot complain. I love you Lyenah. I love all of you. When God calls me home I’ll say Ok…”

Thank you so much for all your kind words of support and your prayers and well wishes. I appreciate them all. He’ll probably have to stay in the hospital one more night, at least. I guess he has a roommate who yells obsenites when he’s in pain and that’s not a great formula for relaxation for my Pop so I’ll be praying the roommates pain is managed better…

Just got this update from my niece Debbee after she visited my Pop this morning…

Hey everyone~
Just got back from visiting with Deda, he was feeling pretty good this morning, chipper and rested. He was able to sleep a lot last night, fell asleep during Jeopardy:), then woke up at 1, then slept again til 5 then 7. He was very thankful for the restful night of sleep and no profanity from the guy next to him.  He said that his chest still feels a little heavy, but that it did feel better today:).   He is still scheduled for the stress test this afternoon and hopefully can go home this evening. But if not, according to him, ” Que sera sera.”  (I have no idea how to spell that) it was hard to hold in the laughter hearing those words come out of his mouth.
So, there is my update of the morning. Hope everyone is doing well. Love you all.  Ok, back to work, 1st period will be starting soon.
Love always,
Debbee

Debbee is a high school math teacher. I’m adding these updates because I want to document this history :0). Glad God answered our prayers for more rest for my Pop and for his roommate having less pain and profanity …

Update 3/24/10 in the evening. My father is being released tonight from the hospital. Nothing in the tests show the need for him to be at the hospital any further. This afternoon my mother fell at the hospital and hit her head and ended up being propped up in my father’s hospital room with an icepack on her head. Oye! We are trying to convince my mother she needs to use a cane because of some hip issues that throw her gait way off. They’ll be happy to be home to take care of each other…

Thank You for Praying for my Dad!

He would do the same for you!

Thanks so much for all your prayers for my dad, Moisi. He came through his surgery well and will be coming home Tuesday morning. Several of us “kids” were at the hospital all day hanging out together. We got to pray over him before he went into surgery. He’ll be in a lot of pain for a while but when everything heals up he should have some good relief from some heartburn issues that have been bothering him for a long time. I really appreciate my blogging community that responds to the needs of our cyberspace community! Blessings on all of you…

Photobucket is holding my photos hostage from 2007-2015 and replacing them with an ugly black and grey squares demanding money to release them, so frustrating.
