Truth for Today #159

Thursday August 28th

On Thursdays my posts will include verses that stood out in my readings from the Bible during week. One, two, three or maybe more. If you have a verse/verses that you read during the week and would like to share, leave it/them in the comments and I will add it/them to the post. Let’s dig deep in God’s Truth again this year!

The verses that you share are appreciated and so encouraging, I’m thankful for them and for each of you!

This week I’m sharing 10 verses to prompt you for prayer for your kids and teachers as they go back to school.

Ephesians 4:32 ~Be kind to one another; tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Joshua 1:9 ~Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.

Proverbs 10:9 ~Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.

Psalms 56:3-4 ~When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?

Philippians 4:6-7 ~do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

2 Peter 3:18 ~But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Proverbs 17:17 ~A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

Colossians 3:23-24 ~Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward.

James 1:5 ~If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

I Timothy 6:6-7 ~But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.

From Vera:

“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

From Cindy:

Psalm 27. Verse 1 reads, The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?

Truth from A to Z ~ K is for…

This Thursday we have reached the letter K in the alphabet. Remember that we will be skipping next Thursday since it is Thanksgiving. We will resume on Thursday the 3rd of December.

Share your verse/verses for the letter K in the comments or on your blog and I will add your choices to the post. Thank you so much.

K is for Kindness: Titus 3:3-7 (ESV)

For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

From Cheryl: King of Kings: Revelation 19:11-16

Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He [e]had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in [f]fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a [g]sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

From Vera: Keeps Known

“No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭3:6‬ ‭ESV‬‬

From Maristella: Knowledge

“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness,* knowledge*; and to *knowledge*, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.”
2 Peter 1:5-7

From Bethany: Check out here post on her blog, Raindrops and Rainbows.

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Ephesians 4:32

From Patsystitch: Kindness

Isaiah 54:10 (Eternal Covenant of Peace)
For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my kindness shall not depart from you, nor my covenant of peace shall not be removed, says the Lord, who has mercy on you.

From Happy One: Keeper

Psalm 121:5 The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand.

So many great verses for the letter K. Thank you everyone. May God’s Word build you up and carry you through the week.

Kind/Kindness

It is Tuesday August 25th and a special day in our family. Today Josh and Laura are celebrating 19 years of marriage! The word for today is Kind. You can also use kindness.

Ephesians 4:32 (ESV)

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Share your verse/verses in the comments and I’ll add them here.

From my sister Vera:

“Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God’s kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭11:22‬ ‭NASB‬‬

From Maristella:

“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
Colossians 3:12 | NIV

From Anneliese:

A man who is kind benefits himself, but a cruel man hurts himself. Proverbs 11:17

From Happy One:

Genesis 1:25 KJV

And God made the beast of the earth after his KIND,
and cattle after their KIND,
and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his KIND:
and God saw that it was good.

From Pat:

“And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.” Luke 6:31

Josh and Laura love their niece and nephews and are very kind to them.

It’s a blessing from God that our kids are kind “one to another”.

Can you tell they are brothers?

They are also kind to their friends who are our friends, too.

Happy 19th Anniversary to you Josh and Laura. We love you and thank God for who you are in Him individually and together!

B is for Birthdays!

Joshua's birthday 027January is a big birthday month at this old house. Our oldest son was born on January 19th and his younger brother arrived two years later on January 16th. My younger brother was born on January 22nd and my youngest niece, Hope, was born on January 25th.

I set Joshua’s birthday table around a Washington state sports theme. Since we were celebrating the night before the NFC championship game here in Seattle I added some Seattle Seahawks touches to our Seattle Sounders Soccer themed table.

The Seahawks and the Sounders have similar team colors which made it easy and fun.

Our boy was happy with the table setting, the Ribeye steaks and his special request dessert. We had such a good time celebrating Josh.

Joshua's birthday 037Josh and Laura gifted me these beautiful illustrated ABC verse cards at Christmas and I’ll share the verse for letter B, too.

On Tuesday you can click on over for more ABC Wednesday posts on the letter B. Thank you to Denise Nesbitt who started this meme and to the team of bloggers who manage it every week.
