Excitement Mounts!

Today might be our last day of real sunshine and we might reach 60 degrees! Woohoo! We are not expecting to see too much sunshine on Sunday, the day of the wedding. We will roll with the weather. That’s something you have to learn to do in the Great Northwest.

The photos above are from the wedding venue. It will be fun to see it all decorated for Katie and Andrew’s wedding. Our first guests arrive this morning.

Moving Ever Forward…

The Lenten Season is one of my favorite times of the year. Looking forward to celebrating Easter, contemplating all that Jesus has done for us and seeing everything new. I showed you my Lenten Rose buds a while back and wanted to make sure not to forget to show you the blooms.

My girlfriend Beth gave me this plant for my birthday a few years ago and I’m so glad it has survived despite my brown thumb. It really is a wonderful sight for sore Winter eyes! Thanks Beth!

My Ladies Bible Study group has been praying for me during this “Wedding Season Countdown Crunch” to be able to have some “Mary” moments instead of all “Martha” moments. You can read that story in the Bible in Luke and a longer version in John.

Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks; so she came to him and asked, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her” (Luke 10:38-42).

Today we are headed to the Venue to drop off items for the day of the wedding like cake toppers, guest book, menu cards, a Celtic Cross, some Marine insignia chargers for the head table, etc. We are also making 4 other stops on the way home. Tomorrow the flower girl arrives from Texas. She’s bringing her parents, too. We are excited to see them all. Another brother and his wife arrive tomorrow. My ring leader sister comes back to her home here in Washington. Our son from Eastern Washington will be traveling over the Cascades to join in all the hoopla. Things are going to get noisy around here! This is only the first small wave…

4 Days till the wedding, 3 days till our all day Clubhouse event on Saturday for friends and family that have traveled from hither and yon.

Hope all is well in your neck of the woods and that you can have some “Mary” moments during this Lenten Season…

Confused?

Our weather seems to be very uncommitted right now. Here’s how we started out the day…

Now we have very bright sunshine with blue skies and fluffy clouds. That snow on the deck and yard is all gone!

Until the weather decides whether it will cling to winter or give in to Spring I have Spring treats like these to make me smile.

My days are filled with ticking off things that need to be done on my list before our wedding company starts arriving.

5 Days To Go…

Bachelorette!

Katie’s maid of honor put together a wonderful evening for friends to celebrate each other. They started with French wine and cheese. An old fashioned photo booth, French restaurant for dinner, dessert outside at Kerry Park with a view of Seattle, and a private karaoke booth to sing the night away.

Lord, Who Throughout These Forty Days ~ Hymn

Lenten Rose

Lord, Who Throughout These Forty Days

Lord, who throughout these forty days
For us didst fast and pray,
Teach us with Thee to mourn our sins
And close by Thee to stay.

As Thou with Satan didst contend,
And didst the victory win,
O give us strength in Thee to fight,
In Thee to conquer sin.

As Thou didst hunger bear, and thirst,
So teach us, gracious Lord,
To die to self, and chiefly live
By Thy most holy Word.

And through these days of penitence,
And through Thy passiontide,
Yea, evermore in life and death,
Jesus, with us abide.

Abide with us, that so, this life
Of suffering over past,
An Easter of unending joy
We may attain at last.

Hair Today…

…more fun tomorrow.

Can I just say that we love our hair dresser! She is always ready to help us in any way she can. Today we had a practice run for Katie’s hairdo for the wedding. Our hairdresser is going to come to the venue on the day of the wedding to do Katie’s hair and any of the bridesmaids hair that want her services. She’ll also make sure my hair is behaving.  She’s even going to bring a razor to fix up the Marines hair if their barbers butchered them.

While we were having our hair looked after today a vehicle for the Bride and Groom’s getaway came up. Come to find out the owner of the Seattle Limousine Company here in Seattle is a friend of our hairdresser. She called him and told him the car was for an active military groom so we got the friend/military discount for the Rolls or Bentley! A wonderful blessing.

Hello March!

So much to look forward to in this month.

No palm trees in our future in March.

We’re enjoying the calm before the storm of wedding activity. On Leap Day we took the day off and were in our robes all day long!

Today Katie and I are going to the hairdresser. I will get my roots looked after and Katie is having the practice run on her hairstyle for the wedding.

We had snowflakes yesterday and I’m really hoping that is the last of it till after the Ides of March.

Hope your March brings you many good things.

Sweet Sixteen

Our second celebration in Southern California on Saturday was a Sweet Sixteen party for my older sister Vera. Are you wondering why we had a Sweet Sixteen Party for a 64 year old? Our sister Vera was born on Leap Year so she’s only had a birthday that landed on her actual birth day 16 times now.

Happy Birthday Vera!

Vera’s kids decided to throw this party for their mom and the creative wheels started turning. They did a wonderful job.

My nieces on the right put together the decorations. Melissa is my sister Kathy’s daughter. Kristin is my sister Vera’s DIL and Debbee is her daughter. Kristin is married to my nephew David and they hosted the party at their beautiful home. There were about 50 guests.

They had each guests name written on the cups which was a great idea. Everyone was able to keep track of their cup throughout the evening.

As each guest arrived they were guided into the photo room with this prompt…I Love Vera because…

There were blank white boards for us to write our reason for loving Vera. Such an affirming act to encourage her with!

My parents lasted a long time at the party. It was great to see them. There were lots of friends from our former churches at the party and we were able to get caught up a bit on our lives.

We took advantage of the photo room for a cousin photo.

Katie and I had a quick sleep at my nieces house and headed back to the Bob Hope Airport at 6:00 A.M. Sunday morning. We were pretty useless the rest of Sunday but after a good nights rest on Sunday night we were good to go and got back to finalizing all the wedding details.
