Outdoor Wednesday ~

Please visit Susan at A Southern Daydreamer to see the great outdoors around Bloggy World.

On my way home from my morning walk with Willow I spotted this Egret in the most peculiar spot.

This is a patch of dirt just below the 101 Freeway in Camarillo that eventually runs into some farmland north of here.

Vietnam Veterans Memorial

It’s time to visit Susan A Southern DayDreamer to join in on Outdoor Wednesday.

I was driving past the Acacia Memorial Park in Shoreline, Washington last week and noticed all the flags flying. Being a curious blogger I popped a U-ie made a U-turn to see what was going on. The Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall was being exhibited for 3 days on this site. It was a sobering experience.

“The Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall is dedicated to all Americans who served in Vietnam and honors all veterans of the U.S. military. The three-day exhibition is sponsored by Vietnam Veterans Association posts 102 and 423 and local Dignity Memorial funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.”

“The monument was created as a service to those who might never travel to the nation’s capital to experience the Vietnam Veterans Memorial firsthand,” said Donna Wagner, director of Dignity Memorial providers in Seattle. “Our replica offers visitors a chance for healing and reflections, and we are very pleased to be able to share it with the community.”

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Juanita Bay Park

It’s time to visit Susan at A Southern Daydreamer to join in the fun of Outdoor Wednesday. I’m avoiding the outdoors today and the next couple days as we are threatened with record breaking heat. We’ve broken some records today and they think tomorrow will reach triple digit temps here in Western Washington. That’s big news for our region which is used to having weather in the 70’s this time of year…

My walk at Juanita Bay Park late last week was in cooler temps and these photos are reminding me it will cool down again soon, I hope!

Did you spot the Blue Heron in this photo. He was way out of my camera range but I zoomed as far as I could to capture this shot of him…

Sounders 2 ~ Houston 1 in Overtime!

My Outdoor Wednesday Post is from the soccer field at the U.S. Open Cup Semi-finals in Renton, Washington. Thanks to Susan at A Southern DayDreamer for hosting the weekly event.

Tuesday afternoon/evening I attended the Sounders U.S. Open Cup Game against Houston Dynamo with my kids and Jamie D.  What an intense physical game. Houston scored in the first half and we didn’t tie the game up until the 89th minute to force an overtime. We scored in the first five minutes of overtime and then it was nail biting excitement to the end!!

Our seats were up close and personal. We were happy to have just a little shade because it was hot in Seattle yesterday. Very close to 90 degrees but it felt even hotter on the field.

Jaqua got hit hard early in the first half and had to have his head bandaged. The ref really did not control the game well and the crowd let him know what they thought of him. Jaqua ended up scoring in the 89th minute to tie the game!

The Seattle soccer crowd is loud!

You should have heard the crowd explode when we tied the game up and then when King scored early on in overtime. We now head to the finals that are sometime in September.

Things are a bit slow for me in bloggy world this week. My connections here in Seattle are slower then molasses and my brain is distracted with all the home activities I have here. Hopefully I’ll get organized soon.

Outdoor Wednesday ~ My Yard June 30th

For the next several weeks I’m in the state of Washington so my Outdoor Wednesday Posts will be from the Western Washington area.

Susan at A Southern DayDreamer is our kind hostess for this weekly event. Click over to her blog to see Outdoor Posts from around the world.

I took a walk around the yard today to see what might be blooming. My hydrangeas are just getting some color.

I was happy to see my Lavender survived the dry weather the Seattle area has been experiencing seeing how my tenants (two of my adult children) don’t consider watering part of their routine upkeep of the house.

The wild rose bush is flourishing and we have a very few pears growing on the Pear tree and a good amount of blueberries plumping up.

I’m still getting my bearings here in the Northwest. I’m not up to my usual bloggy speed. We are replacing my old double oven this week and I’m scrambling to get things in order for our July 4th Barbecue. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods and if you are in the United States enjoy the 4th!

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Malibu Lagoon

On Saturday Dear and I went down the coast to Malibu to check out the Malibu Lagoon. It was a drizzly gray day in Southern California but that’s good weather for Dear and I.

Don’t Pelicans look a bit pre-historic to you? I’m thinking Pterodactyl here!

This beautiful white Heron came gliding in. They are always so much fun to watch in flight.

Look at that duck surfing on that board! It was fun to see other critters besides birds, too.

While we were here we also explored the grounds of the Adamson House which is part of the Malibu Lagoon State Park and owned by the state of California. If you ever visit the lagoon make sure you cross the bridge over the lagoon on PCH and visit the house.

Have a great Wednesday everyone and make sure you click over to Susan’s at A Southern DayDreamer to see more of the Oudoor World.

Outdoor Wednesday ~ El Matador Beach 2

It’s time to visit Susan at A Southern DayDreamer to see the great outdoors around blogland or to join in the fun.

Last Friday my bloggy walking buddy Willow, her husband The Professor and I went to El Matador Beach and to Malibu Gardens Nursery. This was my second time exploring here and this time the weather was a bit gloomy.

There were fewer birds in residence this morning, too. They were probably out getting breakfast.

I can just imagine this Cormorant was saying “He went that-a-way!”

As we huffed and puffed back up the steep stairs and trail Willow stopped long enough for me to snap her photo.

Now to chase away the gray here’s something bright from the Malibu Gardens Nursery…

Happy Outdoors to you all! See you outside in your neck of the woods…

Outdoor Wednesday ~ El Matador State Beach

It’s almost Wednesday and time for Outdoor Wednesday hosted by Susan at A Southern DayDreamer. I went to explore a beach I’ve never been to before last week. It’s one I’d love to go to again…

You access this beach from a steep dirt path and then some steep stairways.

The rocks were a great visual treat!

It was fun to watch the pelicans fly and land. The cormorants just sat still the whole time I was there. I took lots of photos of the pelicans and I’ve already posted some.

Happy Outdoors to you! Looking forward to seeing your outdoor shots. Here’s hoping Mr. Linky will behave and give Susan a break this week!

Outdoor Wednesday ~ The Path That Leads to Nowhere

The Path That Leads to Nowhere

There’s a Path that leads to Nowhere
In a meadow that I know,
Where an inland river rises
And the stream is still and slow;
There it wanders under willows
And beneath the silver green
Of the birches’ silent shadows
Where the early violets lean.

Other pathways lead to Somewhere,
But the one I love so well
Had no end and no beginning-
Just the beauty of the dell,
Just the wildflowers and the lilies
Yellow striped as adder’s tongue
Seem to satisfy my pathway
As it winds their sweets among.

There I go to meet the Springtime,
When the meadow is aglow,
Marigolds amid the marshes,
And the stream is still and slow;
There I find my fair oasis,
And with carefree feet I tread
For the pathway leads to Nowhere,
And the blue is overhead.

All the ways that lead to Somewhere
Echo with the hurrying feet
Of the Struggling and the Striving,
But the way I find so sweet
Bids me dream and bids me linger-
Joy and Beauty are its goal;
On the path that leads to Nowhere
I have sometimes found my soul.

Outdoor Wednesday ~ Edmonds, Washington

Susan at A Southern Daydreamer is our hostess for Outdoor Wednesday. I finally have some free time while I’m in Washington to join in on the outdoor fun. Visit Susan by clicking on the link above to see more Outdoor posts!

Edmonds – Kingston Ferry Dock

On Saturday I took a detour on my way to Goodwill and walked along the waterfront in Edmonds. The tide was low this day.

This was a new waterfront sight that I don’t see in Southern California…Canadian Geese!

On Wednesday Dear and I fly back to Southern California. Happy Wednesday to everyone!
