Pancake Hodgepodge

Rise and shine, it’s pancake time!

Thank you to Joyce From This Side of the Pond for our Wednesday Hodgepodge questions.

1. The Hodgepodge lands on Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of Lent. Do you mark this season in some way? Will you be giving something up or adding something to your life in this Lenten season?

This will be an as per usual time during Lent as in… morning devotions, reading through the Bible, Women’s Bible Study, Daily Spurgeon, and Daily Doctrine.  Growing in my love and devotion to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is an everyday thing and includes the 40 days of Lent.

From Spurgeon: ‘God, you see me.”  “May the Lord be as a well to us, delightful, comforting, unfailing, springing up unto eternal life.”

We have 17 days of travel during Lent this year which is very unusual for us. I will be absent from the Hodgepodge for at least a couple of Wednesdays.

2. Pancakes…are you a fan?

YES! All kinds of pancakes are enjoyed. These are yogurt pancakes. Potato pancakes at the top of this post.

Every time our whole family gets together we enjoy Greg’s Swedish pancakes. It’s a long standing tradition at our house and we always serve them with Little Smokies.

Greg has also made Aebleskivers, Danish spherical pancakes.

Syrup or no syrup?

Yes, please, real maple and fruit syrups.

Plain, blueberries, chocolate chips, bananas, or some other add in?

No to chocolate chips or bananas. Yes to blueberries or strawberries and always sour cream!

Are pancakes on your menu this week?

Yes, in the blintz form, we had them last night for dessert since it was Pancake Tuesday/Shrove Tuesday!

3. Tell us about a time recently when you felt ‘spread too thin’.

I haven’t felt this way recently. I might feel that way after today as we are getting ready for an international trip so I’m getting all our ducks in a row starting now!!

4. What’s your favorite jewel or gemstone?

If I have to pick a favorite, I’ll choose a Ruby.

In terms of your wardrobe would we find more gem tones, pastels, black and white, or primary colors?

My wardrobe isn’t well planned and is a combination of all of these.

5. What responsibility do you think is hardest about being in charge?

Being a mom is a very hard responsibility, one of the hardest. Being a grandmother is so much easier.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I finally finished this most difficult puzzle just before Valentine’s Day. The pressure was on to get-er-done since we would be using the dining room table for company on the night before Valentine’s day and then again on the 17th of February. This was one of the hardest puzzles I’ve ever completed because of the very random shapes of the pieces.

See you in the middle of March, Hodgepodgers! I will try to post daily postcards of our journey here on my blog.

  1. Greg´s pancakes look so good! The Danish ones especially!! I´m not a grandma but I know many grandmas and I think your assessment is correct. I hope your travels go well- so exciting!

  2. The puzzle is beautiful, but I completely get what you said about it being so hard because of the odd shapes of the pieces. Every time we work one of those, I say the same thing…give me the old-fashioned interlocking puzzles, please.

  3. Your pancakes look good and how lovely that you enjoy them when you are all together as a family. Those Aebleskivers look interesting, I haven’t seen them before. We had pancakes yesterday too. I am so glad someone else linking up to the Hodgepodge celebrated and not just me. hehehe That looks like a great puzzle but sounded very challenging!

  4. I’ve never been presented with a pancake that I did not like. I’m thinking blintzes and crepes are pretty much the same thing?

Enjoy your travel. I know you will have wonderful photos to share after your return, and I look forward to seeing them.

  5. Wow – so many different kinds of pancake joy! Some I have never heard of…but certainly would not mind trying:) Great job on your puzzle. It does look like a tricky one. Hope you are having a good week…and safe travels on those upcoming trips.

  6. OOH I would LOVE the recipe for the Swedish pancakes if he’s sharing. I make a Swedish apple pie every autumn but never have heard of Swedish pancakes.

How fun to be planning an international trip. I haven’t been on one since we went to Rome /Florence Italy in 2017. ENJOY

I loved all of your answers…that puzzle!! WOW it’s stunning.

  7. I am at a loss for words about all your pancake ideas. My family was doing well to just get the round ones, and sometimes they were from a mix. Can we still be friends? I am thrilled about your upcoming trip, and can’t wait to hear all about it. Hubby and I will be taking a road trip to Southwest Texas to the Big Bend National Park and other points of interest at the end of March. We are excited about that since it’s been on our list since moving to Texas.

  8. That’s a good quote. Safe travels. How nice that you enjoy pancakes. The yogurt ones sound interesting. They all look delicious. The blintzes look delicious. I would definitely feel stressed about packing for a trip like that. I agree, being a grandmother is much easier and fun too. The puzzle is lovely. Take care and have a great trip.

  9. The blintzes and those Danish pancake things look delicious! Looks like you need a special pan to make the Danish ones, so I guess I probably won’t be making those any time soon.

    Have a wonderful week!

I read all comments and appreciate them.
