The Heat is On…

This chubby scout hopped up on the deck. Usually the quail stay off the deck.

I took a quick pic with my phone through the slider.

We are in the midst of another hot spell here. We had hints of autumn for a few days but summer is still making an appearance. Of course that means a lot of watering is happening here.

We are in the midst of getting things ready on our property before we travel to Scotland. Our neighbors and son will look out for our property but no one will be watering or mowing.

The heat is real today and you can almost feel it through these photos.

But before we know it the cool days of Autumn will be upon us and the Fall decor will come out of their bins.

My eye doctor visit revealed the need for some minor laser surgery needed to clear up some fogginess. It is too bad this couldn’t have been completed before our trip to Scotland. I will meet with the specialist before we leave and schedule the procedure for when we return.

I’m adding a new purchase from the dollar store in town which is now the $1.25 store!

Are you cooling down or heating up again? Enjoy your last days of summer, dear ones!

  1. It’s been a lovely cool week here. Our weather is supposed to a little warmer next week for a few days. Fall is definitely in the air. Your trip sounds wonderful Ellen. I’m sure the weather will be on the cool side in Scotland. Sorry to hear about your vision issues. Martha Ellen

  2. The quail is cute! I know you are looking forward to the Scotland trip!

Your new purchase is pretty! I hope all goes well with your eye procedure.

Take care, have a wonderful weekend!

  3. Lovely to see your summery views. Very autumnal here with lots of rainfall. I’ll send some your way while you are travelling. Looking forward to seeing where in Scotland you are heading this time. B x

  4. I wouldn’t be able to ID it if I had the chance to come face to face with your quail. It’s beautiful especially the crown like a decorative feather on some fancy hat. You know, I’ve eaten them but never seen them alive. Sorry, pal.
Have a great trip to Scotland, Ellen! Looking forward to your journey in photos! 🙂

  5. My what a handsome fellow! We are experiencing that heat wave as well, although not quite as warm as you get over on the east side. I hope you have a wonderful trip to Scotland. Looking forward to seeing your pictures. We are heading to Switzerland in a couple of weeks to take a river cruise to Amsterdam.

  6. My what a handsome fellow. Brave too, to come up on the deck like that. We are experiencing the heat wave here as well, although not as warm as you are experiencing on the east side. Hope you have a wonderful trip to Scotland. Looking forward to seeing your pictures. We are heading over Switzerland in a couple of weeks to take a cruise down the river to Amsterdam.

  7. Ellen, my husband had the same eye surgery a month ago and I, too, wish yours could have been done before your trip. It made such a difference for him.

Loved the pictures of the Quail.

  8. I love your Dollar Tree Store. I think I’ll check mine and see if I can find that or something similar. Our weather has been pretty nice this week. No rain, but we need that really bad. We had a couple of pretty hot days, but it’s cooling off this evening and is supposed to be really nice this weekend. But the hot is not done, I’m pretty sure. Hope you have a great trip.

  9. That does look hot out. Our weather is finally cooling down a bit. It is even drizzling rain slightly right now.

    I LOVE quail!! Willow

  10. It’s like a reminder of our Five Faves 😉

I know about that heat. Almost like you can’t bear to look out at the crisping leaves…. May all go well with your plans for the trip.

  11. Your quail visitor is adorable, and it’s always nice to capture unexpected moments like that! It sounds like you’re in the midst of a busy time with both the heat and preparing for your trip to Scotland. I hope the minor laser surgery goes smoothly once you’re back; it’s a shame it couldn’t be done before your travels, but it’s good that you’re taking care of it.

It seems like summer is holding on strong in your area, but it’s exciting to think about the arrival of autumn and getting out the fall decor. The changing seasons bring such a refreshing change. Enjoy the rest of your summer, and safe travels to Scotland! Hi wishing you a happy weekend.
