No Winter Lasts Forever…

…No spring fails to appear.

Our last door wreath had seen better days so we picked this one on our last trip to HomeGoods in Spokane.

Last Thursday, Friday and Saturday we were able to spend time outside clearing some dead growth in several of our planters. We got a very good start but aren’t finished, yet. It was encouraging to see signs of Spring growth in those planters.

Columbines

Daffodils

Rhubarb

I changed up my plate hanger with these dishes, Dreamtown Made in England by Johnson Brothers. I have 4 dinner plates. They were a thrift store find.

Soon I’ll be pulling out the Easter bin and changing things up again with lots of Spring accents.

Are you seeing signs of Spring in your corner of the world?

  1. It is uplifting to see signs of the Spring. I’ve enjoyed seeing the view through the window of your neighbours’ horses and the mountains. The plates hanging on the wall are pretty. I’ve quite a few plates hanging on our living room walls also. Have a good week Ellen and family.

  2. The wild daffodils (better known by locals as buttercups) are blooming here in central KY, and other bulbs are peeking through the soil. It’s been an overall mild winter with one significant snowfall. I’m ready for spring.

    • Hi Elaine, I love that name, buttercup! I’m ready for Spring, too. Back in 2021 we traveled through Kentucky on I-75 after visiting the Ark, on our way to North Carolina for a wedding.

  3. Love the mountain view from your window, and the addition of the horses makes it even prettier. We have skipped spring all together here in North Central Texas with a high of 90 today. I am so not ready for the Texas heat, but it is a gorgeous day. I am taking my walker out on the front patio a couple times a day to enjoy the sunshine before it gets too hot

    • Hi Libby! Hope your surgery went well and that you are healing nicely. Sounds like you are making the effort to get some exercise. Yikes, 90! Hope it is a glitch and not a trend. Take care.

  4. I am seeing some signs of spring here too. I took a little stroll around the garden one day early last week and took some pictures. I’m looking forward to things warming up so I can get out there and clean out the winter debris that’s been left behind.

  5. How pretty! I love the wreath. Ours, too, has seen much better days. The plates are lovely also. Gotta love thrift store finds. I have found some beautiful dishes there.

  6. Well, the daffodils are beginning to pop up. I noticed robins in the back garden this afternoon. The temperature was in the 60s today. But I am sure that winter will return soon.

  7. Your new wreath looks nice, Ellen. We are beginning to see signs of spring here. Yesterday afternoon I picked a dozen daffodils from the south side of our home. Today was in the 60’s and tomorrow will bring the same, but then the cooler weather returns. Enjoy your spring harbingers. Martha Ellen

  8. Yes, I am excited for spring this year! I do not hate winter, but I am ready to see colorful blooms and green grass. I love your new front door wreath! I am always in a quandary about what to put on my front door between Christmas and spring. I often leave my Christmas wreath up through January (this year I replaced the red Christmas plaid bow with a blackwatch plaid flannel bow), but then I get tired of pinecones and evergreen and wish for something more “neutral.” (I overthink these things.) But I think your wreath is so pretty and fits many seasons!

  9. Pussy Willows are such a delight. During the one recent year that we spent entirely in Oregon, I took home some pruned branches from our daughter’s tree (bush?) and they graced a tall vase in our living room for months! I hated to throw them away knowing by that time that I probably wouldn’t be spending the next February there and so it happened! But Oregon family and spring flowers were definitely the two joys of 2020-21!!

  10. Ellen I just now realized that WordPress is using my WP account (which has never been active) as my ID when I comment here. I used to be able to change it to the one I actually use but that no longer seems possible. I’m sure you already know that it’s me but I’m sort of apologizing for appearing that I want to be anonymous. Sallie (FullTime-Life)

  11. In spite of the cold weather and even a few snow flurries, spring is making an appearance – daffodils bloom, the garlic is up, and the apricot tree has blossoms (that I hope won’t freeze). Lovely to see the signs at your place. The ruffled Columbine leaves are so pretty.

  12. We were definitely seeing signs of spring around here – until today when the snow arrived! I have planted seeds in the greenhouse. I’m glad its warming up and melting though. Your new wreath is beautiful! And I love that you can see horses in your view, they are so fun to watch! I haven’t seen a lot of growth of early spring bloomers yet, but with this warmer weather, I’m sure they are loving it! Many blessings to you 🙂
