Birthdays and the Great Freeze

On Friday night we enjoyed an early birthday dinner for Dan and Jamie who have birthdays today and tomorrow. Josh has a birthday this week, too, and Laura sent a couple photos of them enjoying an amazing sunset on the other side of our state.

On Friday we served Lovella’s Arroz Con Pollo which was enjoyed by everyone. It’s a dish that Jamie orders most often at any Mexican restaurant. We enjoyed it with brown rice and both corn and flour tortillas. We also enjoyed Pico de Gallo with added chunks of avocado.  For dessert we had a family favorite, Applesauce Spice Cake.

We have been below freezing here for a few days. We stayed inside all day Saturday and I worked on my latest puzzle. I’m getting close to finishing.

On the way to church on Sunday our car was registering -5 degrees F outside.

We had a great Vision Sunday with a ministry fair. Our church theme for the year is Take The Next Step.

Colossians 2:6, Therefore as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him.

We are now heading into another week of very cold temps and snow promised from Tuesday evening through Thursday morning. We always wait and see if the predictions are accurate. We have seen that many folks in many parts of the country are experiencing severe cold. How is it where you live?

  1. Here in Alabama, we are bracing for a big cold front. Tomorrow our high will be below freezing all day. The very northern corner of the state has snow. We may get a layer of light ice which is actually worse than just snow (here). We don’t have snow tires or snow plows . . .they will sand the slick spots.

  2. That cake looks delicious! And how thoughtful it is of you to make something that is Jamie’s favorite when she goes to a Mexican restaurant. It is cold here, too, but not as much as at your place. Our high today is to be 24…our lowest last night was 9 degrees. These next several days the temperatures are to remain low…never above freezing.

  3. Oh how I wish it was -5*F here! As I type it is -25*F feeling like -44*F with the windchill. The other night it hit a “feels like temperature of -64*F! Crazy weather. Happy birthday to both the birthday “kids”. That cake sounds delicious!

  4. That’s a beautiful cake! It’s cold here too. We had our first snow of the season today. The children just loved playing in it.

  5. At 3pm, it’s 15 degrees…it was 4 degrees when I got up around 7 this morning. Happy Birthday to your family members. Hoping you are having a great day.

  6. Happy Birthday to Dan and Jamie. What a beautiful cake.
Nice puzzle. Looks like quite a challenge. We just finished one and about to start another.

  7. It’s 30 degrees here with light snow falling. Nothing like your weather, but very cold temperatures for us all week. That wind can really be brutal and lead to a much colder feel.
Happy birthday to your family members. Such nice celebrations with a lovely cake and food.
I adore that Beatrix Potter puzzle. I must look for it online.
    Stay warm and cozy!

  8. Yes, it has been bitterly cold here as well – the local ski resort has been closed for several days due to the dangerous temperatures and wind chills. It has been refreshing to have an excuse to stay inside and do other things! I love the look of the “cathedral” Bundt cake with the dusting of “snow”! I must get a puzzle out on my desk, that I can work on as a break for my brain! Thanks for your comment on my blog!
