Deep Freeze

Winter has come in frigid.

We venture out for a very short time and only if necessary. Our faces start feeling the freeze almost immediately.

We did venture into town today to the post office and to the grocery stores. Since we were in town we decided that Chinese Food would be a treat and something different for lunch. Back home safe and sound. We have our interior doors to the bedrooms all shut including any other room that has a door to conserve our heat to our sitting areas. We continue to throw out seed for our feathered friends.

On Wednesday at dusk we were startled by a large bird landing on our deck and taking off quickly with a fat quail in it’s claws! It was a huge hawk. We were stunned. Birds of prey need to eat, too.

We are hoping our kids from the west will arrive safe and sound on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We’ve got some wrapping and a little baking yet to do. We’ll also mop and steam the floors that have seen the worst from snow covered boots here and there.

Hope you all are ready to enjoy this joy filled time of year.

About Ellen am a wife, mother, baba (grandmother) and a loyal friend. Jesus is my King and my hope is in my future with Him.

  1. Hello,
Beautiful landscapes, the winter scenes look so pretty.
We are supposed to have this cold bitter weather this weekend.
    Stay warm and safe!
Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Wishing you all the best in 2023!

  2. The snow is beautiful!

I have heard there is a lot of it and chilly cold too. Don’t be afraid to postpone the traveling. Christmas can wait! Really. When I was a kid my parents called Santa and rescheduled so we could go to Disney World. 😂

  3. Our temperature is -8 this morning and we have some snow (not a lot), but we’re supposed to have very strong wind gusts today. The snow has already drifted up on the front porch that typically stays clear. I took in our outside decorations last night as I didn’t want anything damaged. We’re planning to spend the day inside and hopefully warm. You guys stay warm and safe. Enjoy your family and Merry Christmas!

  4. Looks as if the entire country has winter issues. (We are experiencing 40° plus in torrential rain and 60 mph winds. Tomorrow the temps drop back to normal in the 20s. (It will be an ice rink out there!)

I have part of my home shut off as well. I think we are all trying to think of ways to conserve.

May the travelers arrive safe and sound and may your Christmas be relaxing and blessed.
Thanks be to God for His wonderful Gift.

  5. Merry Christmas Ellen! It is quite frigid here, we had -15 yesterday. We also went to town yesterday to get a few last minute things. It is snowing here today. I thinknit will be a Christmas to remember! Prayers for safe travels for your children!!

  6. I thought our temperatures were cold–25 degrees! Wind chill was brutal on our morning shortened walk. Your snow looks so pretty. Sorry to hear about your quail, but you are right all birds need to eat. Have a wonderful Christmas with your family!

  7. It has hit on this side too. Our streets are sheets of ice due to the freezing rain on top of the 4-6 inches of snow. Watching the news today it seems to be sweeping across the nation. You were brave to venture out! Have a very Merry Christmas Ellen!

  8. Wow -9.3F is cold for you, that’s just about what we’re having now. But we’re in the North Country so bound to be cold. Your surroundings are beautiful though and that makes every picture a Christmas card. Merry Christmas to you and yours, Ellen. Enjoy the great outdoor and the marvellous scenery around your home. All best wishes for a healthy, safe, and wonderful New Year as well!
