…and our blooms are slower to open up this Spring. Compared to last year our Peonies, Clematis, Irises, and Columbine are all a bit behind in opening up in their glory.
We have 2 large bushes of this variety of Peony and 3 smaller ones. When they bloom I try to bring bouquets in and give away some, too. I was able to take a nice bouquet to a surprise birthday party we went to on Sunday afternoon during a dry spell with sun, some blue sky and lovely fluffy clouds. When we got home from the party the skies opened up with an amazing downpour with lightning and thunder and hail, oh my.
One of the many Iris bulbs opened up on Saturday. Several more to come.
Our weekend was filled with mostly rain with a few dry spells. During the dry spells I pulled as many weeds as my back and arms would permit. When the soil is wet with rain the weeds pull up easier. I figure 20 more hours of weeding and I’ll be ahead. I smile and sigh at the same time.
Even though we are getting a lot of rain and cooler temperatures this Spring we go with the flow and hope that this accumulation of moisture will help lower the risk of wildfires this summer.
How goes it in your corner of the world?
…we had a heavy rain that knocked my poppies flat!
We have had days of rain as well, but yesterday and today look wonderful. My peonies are in full bud, though not as many as you have. And irises are blooming, too. I do love irises. Mine are generic purple. I like your pink ones. The lilacs have lasted a long time in the cool weather, though they are fading now. I really don’t mind temps in the high 60s and low 70s. That may be my perfect kind of weather. I should probably move further north.
Have a blessed week!
Love,
Vee
Hello,
Love the peony blooms and the pretty iris. The rain storms seem to miss us, we could use some rain.
Take care, enjoy your new week!
Your peonies are so lovely. I’m still waiting for my buds to open, but soon, I hope.
We are already into the 90’s with lots of hot sun and high humidity here in Alabama. Summer isn’t official until June 20 (21?) but we are in full summer here.
I don’t think I’ve seen red peonies before. Yours are such a rich color. Our short cool season is just about over and I’m strategizing next steps for my serendipitous calendulas. Enjoy your rain!
Beautiful blooms. We have been having one sunny day after another in the 70’s. Perfect weather!!
Your peonies are lovely and well worth the wait! Our own peonies bloomed while we were away visiting Kati and family. Maybe next year . . .
Hope you get all of that weeding done before the intense summer heat!
Gorgeous flowers. Blessings.
Our garden is about the same – much slower this year. I’m still waiting for peonies and roses to open. The irises are in bloom now, and stand so tall even in the rain. Everything is very lush and green!
My corner of the world is a lot like yours. 🙂 Lots of rain that brings hope of fewer brush fires this summer. The forecasters say we’re possibly breaking records for rainfall this year. Oh joy. My plants are taking longer to bloom as well.
