Friday Fete

It’s not a hummingbird but it flies like one. What kind of bug is this?

Turkeys continue to visit here and there.

Fun to catch the fan.

This little guy is probably going to have a growth spurt. He’s eating everything in sight.

Addy is enjoying her bicycle and she got a bell and handle streamers this week. I think she likes them and riding with her new accessories!

I’m limiting social media at present. Many mean well but there is just too much noise. I need to protect my head and heart. I haven’t stopped praying. I’m reading my Bible which is the best Truth I can digest right now. The only dialogues I’ll participate in are face to face, one on one conversations. That way I can see and hear the tone of the conversation instead of trying to guess what is being communicated. I do have phone conversations with my “Coast” kids since I can’t see them face to face right now.

My morning readings this month are Psalm 19, Psalm 119, The Gospel of Luke and then I read a chapter in Proverbs that corresponds with the day. I finish up with a good dose of Spurgeon. Thursday was the 4th so I read Proverbs 4. These verses stood out to me;

Proverbs 4:13-18 (ESV)

Keep hold of instruction; do not let go;
    guard her, for she is your life.
14 Do not enter the path of the wicked,
    and do not walk in the way of the evil.
15 Avoid it; do not go on it;
    turn away from it and pass on.
16 For they cannot sleep unless they have done wrong;
    they are robbed of sleep unless they have made someone stumble.
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness
    and drink the wine of violence.
18 But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,
    which shines brighter and brighter until full day.

Hope you all have a good Friday and great weekend in your corner of the world.

About Ellen am a wife, mother, baba (grandmother) and a loyal friend. Jesus is my King and my hope is in my future with Him.

  1. Hello,

    There are 4 speices of the Hummingbird moth, I have seen the one called Clearwing. Love your cute grandkiddies. Addy looks happy on her bike. Peace and love to all. Take care! Enjoy your day, have a happy weekend!

  2. Hello dear Ellen! Good idea to limit social media just now. It’s so divisive. I took Instagram and FB off my phone for the same reasons. Our Good Shepherd will keep us and hold us fast. YAY! I might have to get some streamers for my new bike. I’m shopping for one. Addy is so perky and her little bro is sunshine personified! Take care, sweet sister.

  3. A hummingbird moth. I see them here in my gardens on occasion.

    For our peace of mind and heart we do have to limit what goes into them.

    Your grands are adorable and certainly are enjoying life. ~ Have a great day ~ FlowerLady

  4. You think Addy likes them? What gives it away? So cute. That is the look of sheer joy.

    Yes, watch out for that growth spurt!

    It is wise to step back from the strident voices and from those who think they have a clue.

  5. Thank you for these sweet photos Ellen, especially of your family and darling grandchildren.

    I have photos of your hummingbird moth below if you’d like to take a look from last summer. It looks like the same one.

    Limiting social media is a good idea. We need to stay informed but at the same time it can be so overwhelming and we need to take these breaks. I pray for everyone out there, especially those who are in the thick of things. Take good care of yourself and enjoy your weekend.

  6. I see that others have already told you your bug is a hummingbird moth. I came across one of these a few years ago.
    What a delight to see Addy on her bike with the new bell and streamers! 🙂

  7. You have such beautiful grandchildren. I love these photos you have shared. I sure enjoyed my bicycle when I was a little girl! Like you, I pray for our Country and its leaders. I don’t mention the violence and sadness on my blog. I try to blog about just one subject each day – mostly things that I am thankful for. I wish you a blessed weekend.

  8. Good call on the social media Ellen. I agree wholeheartedly with your reasons.
    We have seen some of those “is that a hummingbird? No, I don’t think so, but what is it?” Things.
    We did some research at the time and although i don’t remember the name of them, I think I remember that it was a large variety of moth.

  9. Ellen – when I was a kid, we put playing cards in our spokes to make a flapping sound. Do kids still do that?

    You are wise to limit your exposure to social media. I could write several pages about how the protests have affected our daughter. She is well, but it has been an emotional rollercoaster. Last night I found Ephesians 4:31-32 and it really spoke to me. I hope your weekend is joyful!

  10. Yes there is too much noise out there right now. We need God’s thoughts and heart and the only way to do that is to shut off the other stuff and allow His voice through. Thanks for the reminder. Love the pictures of the kids. Oh those streamers bring back some memories. She looks so happy!
