Night at the Museum

P1050770On Wednesday night we drove downtown in the rain and wind to Dear’s company Christmas Party which of course they call a Holiday Event. For the next couple months Dear’s company is Dendreon Corporation. They are currently in Chapter 11 proceedings and the company will be auctioned off to the highest bidder on February 4th. In the meantime there are speculations flying around as to what large company might be interested in purchasing Dendreon. Dendreon has a treatment for Prostate Cancer. A very simple explanation about the treatment is that the patient’s own cells are treated to be able to fight the cancer.

10502129_10205489741431214_8961686982131276351_nWe were treated well with good food and drink. There were two signature drinks. Orange for Dendreon and Blue for Provenge, the name of the cancer treatment.

The party was at the MOHAI in Seattle, Museum of History and Industry. It was a great setting for a private event. Some of my favorite displays at the museum were the following.

P1050759“It is fitting that the Toe Truck will be included in the museum’s eclectic collection of local memorabilia. Built nearly 25 years ago, the Toe Truck became a local landmark for millions of motorists during the more than two decades it was displayed outside the Lincoln Towing yard at Fairview Avenue North and Mercer Street.”

P1050766The Rainier Beer R was a landmark for years just off the Interstate in Seattle. The original 12-foot-high Rainier sign graced the top of the Rainier Brewery from the 1950s until 2000, and now rests restored at MOHAI.

P1050772I was happy to see items from my favorite team amongst the museum sport team memorabilia.

P1050774When we left and were waiting for our car I snapped some photos of the Space Needle. By this time the rain had stopped. We were very happy the company provided free valet parking for the event, too.

More Xmas 006We are choosing joy as we continue to make preparations for the most wonderful time of the year and for all the unknowns of next year!

  1. I hope all goes well with the acquisition of the company your husband works for! With a possible cure for prostate cancer, I’m surprised they are in chapter 11! That cure would be a miracle for many men!
The party looked like fun and that museum looks like a fun place to visit. I hope to see the Space Needle in person one day –what a view it must have.
I hope the storm did no damage to your home–it looked like a western hurricane on the TV news this evening.

  2. Kudos to Dendreon for their work! My Daddy died of prostate cancer last year, and to know there is a possible cure out there makes me very happy. I hope whoever buys the company will do right by it.

  3. It sounds a little bit in flux, but I sure hope that a good company buys them out and hires your Dear, too. We need more cures and treatments for these terrible diseases.

Love the toe photo…bet that’s how big your toe felt recently…I have a sore thumb that feels like that today.

My favorite photo is of the drinks! Very pretty.

  4. Ah the world of corporate America. So wonderful they could treat all their employees to such a lovely party while in the throes of uncertainty. That looks like a fun place. Our oldest works for the American Cancer Society and one of their research grants went to a team who inject a person’s cancer cells into a fruit fly and test drugs on the fly until they find the right concoction of drugs to individually treat that person. So cool some of the research that is going on out there. Praying His peace for all as a possible transition looms in the future. Thankful our God is our provider!

  5. I enjoyed seeing photos of your night out, especially since your night out was in Seattle , very near us. My husband proposed to me over 40 years ago after dinner at the Space Needle, while we were looking out over the city from the balcony of the Needle. The Toe truck always makes me laugh !

I hope this next year proves your best year yet. ( and the research & treatment for this cancer are 100% successful no matter who owns the company )

  6. Did not know about this museum … Must ask my Seattle sister if they’ve been there! You have the right attitude at a time when change is brewing. Joy is always a good choice. Best wishes for the “Holiday”season and for a New Year filled with joy in whatever form it comes.

  7. We have been through a couple of such changes in Ron’s working life. Very s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g indeed…and yet faith-building!

Looks like your party was a gala affair! (So, did you miss your fancy shoes?) 🙂
