Multiplying Residents!

Oh dear, how many more of these are there hanging out nearby? This is the first time we’ve seen this one roaming our yard and the neighbors yards in the daylight. When our daughter was living with us before she married and moved to the east coast with her Marine her headlights would capture them as she drove into our drive at night. She also spotted bunny footprints once in the snow.

They are cute little pests. I tried yelling out at this one to “EAT THE DANDELIONS!”

Time will tell if they outgrow their tolerance here at this old house.

Dear is on vacation next week. Before he gets all tied up with completing the siding we are talking about an adventure. So far my brain isn’t coming up with something appropriate. I’m sure by Monday something will kick in. On Saturday we are participating in Community Serve Day. Several area churches team up with volunteers to spruce up our local elementary schools for the new year. We help teachers in their classrooms and clean up the outside areas of the school, too. I’m excited to be going to our kids elementary school. It’s been 20 or so years since I’ve been there. Dear will be pressure washing and I’ll be racking or scrubbing desk tops!

Any plans for your weekend?

  1. You two are the most active couple…it must be something to do with that Western air. I don’t know any couple in the East who is half as busy. Enjoy your adventure and God bless you for helping out at school.

  2. We are usually plagued by rabbits (and deer and all other manner of wildlife) here, but we have not seen so many this summer. Not sure if it was just too hot for them or what. I’m glad they didn’t eat the few flowers that lived!!! Your weekend plans sound like a good way to blow off some steam and do the community good all at once. Enjoy!

  3. We have bunnies galore – nesting right in the middle of my Lady’s Mantel patch in the FRONT flower bed! They have been nibbling all things that grow around here – what to do??? The farmer thinks they are too cute to ….. (how can I say it gently?). Sigh! My “tolerance” is wearing thin I must say.
How wonderful that you are volunteering to help prepare the local school for classes! Have a fab weekend! BTW – I’m finally adding some peaches to my Rumtopf this weekend. I think that will be the last of it unless I feel like adding some plums later on as well. Is your’s all in?

    • Rosella, I’m waiting to add my pears as soon as they are ready and that will be the last of it. My jar is almost full!! And…there has been talk about braised rabbit around here. LOL!

  4. Ahhh, Ellen, what cute pictures. I know they can be pests, but, as you said, they sure are cute. How wonderful that you are helping out at the school. Hope you come up with something wonderful to do before Mr starts on the siding. laurie

  5. Ellen, we see bunnies here all the time too and when I garden I find spots where something must sleep at night. It makes me a bit nervous…hoping it is just bunnies.
Oh what a great idea to use everyone to make a difference in your community. I can imagine you would have been a wonderful teacher. Enjoy that day.

  6. Oh glory….I’m wishing for a BB gun to take out this one PESKY rabbit that sits close to our back door and just sits…taunting poor Molly. If our back yard was fenced in I would let her loose and I’m pretty sure we would not have bunny problems anymore. LOL. Always there are jobs around the house. I hope you can find a good amount of time to just enjoy each other, doing something fun.

  7. Sounds like a nice project to help with. I’m sure being there will bring back memories. We ordered a new bed and dresser last Sat. So, I will be cleaning out and up this Sat so we can rearrange. Hubby is fishing tomorrow and I’m babysitting Little E…which one do you think will have the most fun?? 🙂 Look forward to hearing about where you decide to go!

  8. We have bunnies galore. They live in the wooded area behind our house, but they dine in our yard. I yell at them to eat the thistles. They’re cute, but they’re a nuisance that keeps multiplying.

You and your Dear are so adventurous I’m sure you’ll think of something to do!

  9. I always look forward to your travel posts, Ellen. I hope you get to go somewhere really fun with lots of photo opportunities! 🙂

Weekend is work for me – might squeeze in a museum visit.

  10. These photos make me think of Watership Down, esp. the top one. We have rabbits coming into our backyard and eat up patches of grass. Don’t know what I should do with them.
