Then and Now ~ D.C. Mosaics

As you can see I didn’t study my then photos very well as I stood on the opposite side of the Marine Memorial. You also have to look real hard to see me in the now photo at the right of the statue. The only chance we got to get to the Marine Memorial was during the moonlight tour. In my Capitol shots you can see how things have changed from 40 years ago.

Across the road from the Capitol you can visit the United States Botanic Garden. Here are two mosaics of some of the flowers in the garden.

My last mosaic is for my Canadian friends. Happy Victoria Day to all of you!

Photobucket replaced all my photos with blurred out versions and they are holding my photos hostage until I pay them lots of money. I’m slowly going through all my posts and trying to clean them up and replacing some photos. Such a bother.

  1. Happy Memorial Day to you Ellen! Your trip to DC looks like a great time – and the only difference any of can see in you is the length of your hair!

  2. Wonderful shots. Fun to compare places over the years. I love D.C. So much to do! The flowers are gorgeous. Botanical gardens are one of my favorite things to do as a tourist! Have a delightful week.

  3. Great photos of Washington D.C. I rather like the bookend photos of you at the Marine Memorial. And the flowers mosaics are gorgeous. Sweet little shout-out for your Canadian pals, too. (What’s going on at the capitol building? Increased security and no parking up close? The space looks opened up.)

    • Yes, Vee…no parking anywhere near the Capitol building. Lots of concrete barriers, etc. I’m pretty sure the planter I was sitting on has been removed, too…

    • I’ve been trying to research why the flag was at half mast and can’t come up with anything concrete. The Kent shootings happened that year and the Viet Nam war was going on but I really haven’t found an answer…

  4. I do love to visit DC! It is a wonderful place to wander and take in all the sights and it does indeed have some wonderful sights to see! Thank for sharing these!

  5. Great mosaics. Happy Memorial Day to you and thank you for the thoughtful tribute. Have a great week.

  6. Beautiful photos.
Thank you Ellen for remembering our country..but then you are part Canadian by now I’d say:)

  7. You have reminded me that I missed seeing the botanical garden, and the bonsai garden in my past visits. Gotta put that on my to-do list.

And BTW, how is your 60 to do list coming along?

  8. Beautiful pictures, Ellen! I love the botanical shots. We are back from our wedding weekend – am nursing a throbbing headache today…. hope I am not coming down with something.

  9. I have enjoyed you Washington DC posts, Ellen. They brought back wonderful memories for all the visits we made there while our son attended GW University. I haven’t visited the capital since the new visitors center was built..I’m sure there is heightened security now!
