Anyone Need a Rock?

Do these guys really think they know more than Jesus?

I spotted this on the way to Canada on the side of the road. Right away these verses came to mind.

Matthew 24:35-37 (The Message)

“Take a lesson from the fig tree. From the moment you notice its buds form, the merest hint of green, you know summer’s just around the corner. So it is with you: When you see all these things, you’ll know he’s at the door. Don’t take this lightly. I’m not just saying this for some future generation, but for all of you. This age continues until all these things take place. Sky and earth will wear out; my words won’t wear out.

“But the exact day and hour? No one knows that, not even heaven’s angels, not even the Son. Only the Father knows.

“The Arrival of the Son of Man will take place in times like Noah’s. Before the great flood everyone was carrying on as usual, having a good time right up to the day Noah boarded the ark. They knew nothing—until the flood hit and swept everything away.

Sometimes I think Old Testament consequences would be good for men like this who keep giving dates and times to the Lord’s return. Fortunate for men like this that we are living in the age of grace. The problem is that men like these lead others astray. It’s also fortunate for me that I live in this age of grace. I’m not saying I do everything right…

Deut. 18:20-22 (NIV) “A prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death. You may say to yourselves, ‘How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?’ If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously…”

Mat 24:3-5,10-11 (NIV) …”Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” Jesus answered, “Watch out that no one deceives you, for many will come in my name,.. At that time many will turn away from the faith… and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.”

It’s good to know what the Bible teaches so you aren’t caught up believing false teachers…

Photobucket replaced all my photos with blurred out versions and they are holding my photos hostage until I pay them lots of money. I’m slowly going through all my posts and trying to clean them up and replacing some photos. Such a bother.

  1. There is a video on you tube about this – the guy predicting also made a prediction in the 90’s and was wrong then – so he recalculated to come up with this new date. He gets some of it from the Noah passage with the month and day.
People forget the statements that all is well and good in people’s eyes before the time hits us and that NO ONE knows the actual time. I don’t know how they miss that.

  2. Good to know the Word indeed. Sad for such as those who don’t have that close intimacy with the Father…to discern Truth. It’s like the sad church next door in Kansas….who picket the funerals of the military. I’m sure they’re very sincere in their desire to think they are walking well with God…..yet they are so deceived. I get lost in why the fascination with end times. I mean, I want to be face to face but I know I need to focus on today. Makes me more aware that I really need to pray about all that I hear…to make sure it is Truth.

  3. Well, as you know, I live very near this ridiculous ‘message’. My husband and I were joking about it…his birthday is May 16, but our sister in law’s is May 22nd…so he’ll get his present but poor Pam won’t! On a more serious note; some of the children at my school have seen this and are very frightened. That makes me angry. Many of my students have absolutely no frame of reference for Christianity and this goofball is not helping. And finally on the other hand…wouldn’t it be ironic if Christ did return on the 21st? That would be wonderful indeed. Even so, come, Lord Jesus…Rev 22:20.

  4. Oh, thank you for posting this event. Churches today are turning to everything, but the Word of God. Thank you for sharing scripture that points us back to the Lord and His Word.
I choose to believe His Word…

  5. Amen!

A couple of weeks ago my teenage boys watched this on the local tv news and asked me what I thought about it? I gave them the verses you give and 2 Pet. 3:10a “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night.”

So as you said “It’s good to know what the Bible teaches so you aren’t caught up believing false teachers…”

Thank God for His mighty word!

  6. Well darn it. I had seen their message and had decided not to try to get back into swimsuit shape this year, trusting we would all be in our perfect eternal bodies by May 22.

You’ve ruined my excuse Ellen. And the weight loss need blame is being put squarely on a certain cooking women group’ publications. Double reason to blame you for my currently chubby form.

    😉

  7. Preach it! Excellently put together, God’s word makes it pretty clear. And shouldn’t we be living every day as if it were our last? Have a great weekend at the book signings and MGCC gatherings!
