Searcher of Hearts, from Mine Erase ~ Hymn

Searcher of Hearts, from Mine Erase

Searcher of hearts, from mine erase
All thoughts that should not be,
And in its deep recesses trace
My gratitude to Thee.

Hearer of prayer, O guide aright
Each word and deed of mine;
Life’s battle teach me how to fight,
And be the vict’ry Thine.

Giver of all—for ev’ry good
In the Redeemer came—
For raiment, shelter, and for food,
I thank Thee in His name.

Father, and Son, and Holy Ghost,
Thou glorious Three in One,
Thou knowest best what I need most,
And let Thy will be done.

Words: George P. Morris, 1838.

  1. Thanks so much Ellen! I particularly love the first stanza. These old hymns have so much substance to them. I wish my church sang more of the old ones.

  2. Hi Ellen, this is Ginny. I come by way of Pam, we are both Hartzlers and have been followers for several years. Happy birthday!!! I caught my breath when I saw your header, it must be Ireland or England. It is beautiful, as is your whole blog! This flower is lovely, you are quite a photographer! I LOVE the wonderful poem!!!! I have copied it and am recording it for our church prayer and infromaion line. I hope you have a wonderful day!
