If Only I Was a Poet…

…I’d write a little something about Icicles.

These icicles formed off the edge of our gazebo cover. Some of you might be wondering why we didn’t store our cover in the garage for the winter. I have no idea why we didn’t do that but at this point it might as well stay put.

I know people that live in areas where their winters are harsher then ours have way more impressive icicles. Dear was at the Home Depot this morning because he’s working on yet another project in this old house. It is 20 degrees out there. So when the snow off the hood of his car melted in the Home Depot parking lot it formed icicles on the front end of his car. Sure wish he carried a camera everywhere like I do.

I spotted this cutie in our neighborhood. I’m taking a wild guess and saying a little girl created her!

About that project Dear is working on…it involves moving a gas line so he has the gas shut off right now so our little gas stove and gas fireplace insert are off right now, too. Did I mention it’s 20 degrees out?

What kind of temps and weather are you having today?

Photobucket replaced all my photos with ugly black and grey boxes and they are holding my photos hostage until I pay them lots of money. I’m slowly going through all my posts and trying to clean them up and replacing some photos. Such a bother.

  1. Hi Ellen,

It’s a bit overcast over here… it feels sort of nice out there, but it’s still cold in the house. So I am bundled up making doing some baking to last us for next week. My blackberry pie isn’t turning out so hot – just peeked in the oven.

  2. Glad you are getting some winter “bling”…I think icicles are like jewels against white velvet.
I hope Dear can get those gas lines in fast!
Love the cozy snowman, it is difficult to make them here as the snow is just too powdery. Lots of snow falling here today!

  3. It’s still very cold over here. The snow hasn’t melted, but warmer temperatures are called for. It will take longer to melt up here, though, as while it’s already above freezing in town, it’s still well below at Pondside.

  4. We’ve got clear, cold 20 some degrees and have had bitter Northeast winds. As one of my grandkids might say, “I don’t yike it!”

Pretty pictures. That snowman is too cute!

Re: poetry, perhaps you are. I think poetry is that song in our heart that wells up when we are inspired by beauty, or courage, or even sadness.

  5. I love your icicles, Ellen … but I do hope that they will not be formind INSIDE your house! Hopefully the repair will be completed quickly and the heat restored !

    The snow-lady is very pretty … smile…

It is BRRRRRR out here and I just heard that more snow is on its way.

  6. They are so pretty. However the other day as we were driving around town we saw some GIANT ones hanging off a bridge….that a train uses. We were hoping no trains rumbled over and shook any loose while people were driving under them.

  7. Oh Ellen B, I’m so sad to report that the clouds have blown away and it’s a beautiful day. Hubby says it looks like Seattle after a storm. I ask if we can move there and he says no. I would truly love to see icicles even yours, but your pictures aren’t showing up ;-(.

    xoxo cori g.

  8. I love icicles. Other peoples Icicles because it has to be ccccold to make them. A cold spell must be gripping the whole west cost. It’s in the 40’s here, daytime! We hit 73 just a few weeks ago.

Hope your gas is on by now!

    • Well you know in an old house there is a progression of projects and in the winter it’s too cold for garage, shop or outdoor projects so he takes care of the indoor stuff :o)

    • We have electric baseboard heat in the bedrooms. The gas was back on in a few hours. Today I might get my washer and dryer hooked back up….
