“The Birds”

Late yesterday afternoon we heard an eerie noise…

We have our resident crows that come visit everyday. They peck on our roof sometimes making me think someone is knocking at the front door. They carry trash around the neighborhood and dump it in the most unlikely spots. It’s weird to see a McDonalds hamburger wrapper on my roof. But yesterday things were different. The crowing was deafening. I grabbed my camera and went outside instead of boarding up the fireplace. You remember “The Birds” don’t you?

If I had a video/sound feature on my camera I could share how loud and weird this was. We have never seen this many crows around our home squawking so loudly. It was also really windy.

I’m glad they finally decided to flock elsewhere or I might have considered boarding up the windows and fireplace.

I’m headed out on an early morning walk with my walking buddies from long ago. After the walk Dear and I are taking our son and his lovely wife out to celebrate his birthday which is next Wednesday. We are having a little dry spell and I’m hoping it lasts through the morning.

A good Saturday to you all!

Photobucket replaced all my photos with ugly black and grey boxes and they are holding my photos hostage until I pay them lots of money. I’m slowly going through all my posts and trying to clean them up and replacing some photos. Such a bother.

  1. I can’t yet tell if today will be dry or not. We have a lot of picking up to do outside. The wind came up and we could hear branches falling on the roof so I’ll bet there’s a lot of windfall everywhere.
    Have a great walk!

  2. Yikes! I do remember “The Birds” all too well! ha. I told my daughter just a week or so ago when I saw a huge flock of birds that I remember how scary that movie was when I was a kid, and how it stuck with me my whole life. You too, I guess. 🙂

  3. I could ‘hear’ the cawing in my mind as I looked at those photos. Wow! And as Anne said, “At least they weren’t falling like boulders.”

Happy Birthday to your boy 🙂

  4. I have no idea how you can have so many birds….we thought they were ALL here. We have been having the swarms as well. I love to see all the trees in our yard covered and open the door then shut it loudly….the HUGE whoosh of them all taking flight is great. Thankfully our swarms are not carrying trash around. Our daughter just took a Film class on Hitchcock films. We figured she would HATE The Birds…..she survived and now does the funniest routine if swarms of birds show up outside.

  5. My thoughts too, were, “At least they weren’t falling out of the sky – dead!” Just recently told my grands that the collective noun for crows is a ‘murder of crows.’ Their combined noises would probably make me think there was a murder going on! Shudder!! I do remember ‘The Birds’.

  6. Oh wow. I’ve experienced a crow “mobbing” before. It is truly a weird thing. It does put one in mind of The Birds. Freaky movie for sure.

  7. that’s what our house looks like every evening when Disney fires off their fireworks. It’s a very eerie sight to be sure. I hope you had a lovely Saturday Ellen B.

    xoxo cori g.

  8. regularly down here at a certain time of year you can see where an entire street of trees is black with birds. every branch of every tree has at least 3 crows on it…..then they will ALL take off at the same time! cawing like mad. It literally looks like the trees are taking off at first!!! The noise will drown out your car radio….with the windows rolled up!!!

if you’re not used to it you WILL be freaked out.
