If it’s Friday it’s time for Favorites! Thanks to Susanne at Living to Tell the Story for hosting this weekly event.
My Five this week are all about some of my favorite things about the area I am living in here in Southern California.
Let’s get the food taken care of right off the bat!
#1. I love the amazing taste of strawberries fresh from the fields that I can buy at a local strawberry stand. So much more flavor then the grocery store strawberries.
#2. In nearby Somis there is a family owned Nuthouse where we buy our nuts. They really have an amazing variety. Dear is always happy to “drive me to the nuthouse”.
#3. The Camarillo Library has the best Friends of the Library bookstore I have ever been in. Here’s what I bought this week. The magazines were all 25 cents each. The 3 books on cd were $10.00 each. Pricey for me but well worth it for our upcoming road trip to Seattle the end of June. Books on cd make the hours on the road go by faster and help to keep me awake when it’s my turn to drive. I’ve never read P.D. James so I hope his Death of An Expert Witness will keep my interest. I’m looking forward to hearing The Prisoner of Azkaban instead of reading it again. Dear is a fan of most Robin Cook books so Foreign Body is for his listening pleasure.Β The TeaTime book just looks like a fun read. I was happy to lay down the cash for all these to support the local library.
#4. Thrift Store Shopping. I really enjoy treasure hunting in thrift stores. I’m seasoned enough that I can walk away from great deals if I don’t really need them. Who am I kidding? Most things I buy at Thrift stores I do not need. That said… this week I found these dessert plates from Germany for 69 cents each. The napkin rings that cleaned up OK were $1.75 for all 7 of them.
#5. How very blessed I am. I can drive a short distance from my condo up or down the coast and discover new beaches. This is my latest discovery, El Matador State Beach. This beach is south of us in the northern part of Malibu. I’ll be sharing more photos from this great beach next week…
Looking forward to blog hopping to see your favorites.
Photobucket is holding all my photos that I stored on their site from 2007-2015 hostage replacing them with ugly grey and black boxes and asking for a large ransom to retrieve them. It is a slow process to go through all my posts deleting the ugly boxes.
Ellen – you are the Queen of Thrifting! You get some wonderful buys.
I’m really looking forward to our fresh from the field strawberries – it will be another couple of weeks and the early ones will be ready. I love them on cereal, in yogurt, on salads, on ice-cream, dipped in chocolate . . . and plain.
And plain is how I shall be eating most of them – in fact I’d like to borrow that cooking light – and keep those nuts away from me – I have a wedding coming up π
After reading several blog posts about thrifting, I’m beginning to get the fever!
I love strawberries, too. They’re in season in my neck of the woods now, so we’ve been eating them and eating them …
You do seem to live in a great place. I always enjoy seeing your photos of the local points of interest. If I were you, I think I’d be walking along those beaches in the evenings!
What a wonderful post…and thank you for recognizing how blessed you are for beach closeness…. :o) I always wonder if any of us appreciate what we do have that others think would be AMAZING to experience so easily… Wonderful post…Happy Weekend

LOL. You have thrift store shopping down to a science, I think. I never find great stuff like that.
I had the best strawberries I have ever had last week. Hmmm come to think of it, I totally forgot to add them to my favorites list! I already had two food items on there. LOL.
Chocolate covered cashews are my all time fave. Yummy.
I love Friends of the Library bookstores – such great bargains! Great list – the strawberries look delicious. I call Northern California home so I know all about great California nuts.
Love the FFF. The strawberries look so awesome. I love them. The nuts would just make me nuttier than I already am but I love them as well. El Matador State Beach looks absolutley stunning. Have a great weekend π
Gorgeous plates! And what a beautiful beach pic.

Great idea to post Faves from your area! Gives me some good ideas! I love thrifting… have a great weekend
I have read down the page—and LOVED every bit!
Your shopping finds were great! I so agree on the books on CD for road trips…we never leave home with out one or two! We enjoy a suspenceful thriller with a bit of romance thrown in! But I have always loved listening to the Mitford Series books on Tape or CD! I love the characters voices!
Your photos are always such a joy—this is exactly where I’d just love to camp out and rewind after a HORMONE session of life!
Have a blessed weekend—and THANK you for all the encouraging words on my “hormonal issues”…I have refrained for such a long time about blogging the “stresses” of life…but last night…I said..”why not.”…so there you go! YOU were a minister to my heart and soul!
Those nuts look absolutely yummy! And the goodies you got from the library and thrift store. I have very similar German dessert plates, but I think I only have two…
Have a lovely weekend!
what great photos; thanks for sharing!
We have strawberries coming into season very soon here. In fact my mum has a few in her garden that were just about to start turning. I love that California coast line. I would love to visit there one day.
I loved Thrift Store buys and garage sale treasures. I have not had has much time for those pursuits lately….but it’s fun when I can. It’s a great challenge to get great stuff……cheap!
And those strawberries look amazing! I am ready to dig into a good strawberry right now!
I’m with you on the books on cd — what a wonderful way to occupy your mind when you can’t read! Makes me (almost) look forward to my daily commutes π
I love strawberries and I love nuts. And I also love Southern California.
I envy you and your thrift shopping.
Great list!!
Have a great week.
