Any Suggestions?

Does anyone out there have a suggestion as to what I should use to fix this cake plate?

I bought this today at the Thrift Store for $5 even though the base is separated from the plate. Nothing is cracked or broken. It’s a very clean separation. I have never tried glueing anything like this. The top is very heavy so I’d need something that will adhere really well. So…if you know what I should buy please leave me a comment. Thank you!

Photobucket is holding all my photos I stored with them from 2007-2015 hostage unless I pay them a lot of money. I’m slowly cleaning up many posts from this time period and deleting their ugly grey and black boxes with a ransom request. Such a time consuming bother.

  1. hehe give it to me? lol

it is gorgeous.. if were looking to do something.. I’d get some “gold” glasswear/china paints, and fill in bits of it with it.. you can buy it at Micheals where they sell the stuff for stained glass!

  2. Go to a local Lowe’s or Home depot…they have five million kinds of glues…my husband has used lots of different kinds…some where you mix two tubes together to create some super strong bond. I also think Gorilla Glue is for glass…my dad swears by Gorilla Glue

  3. Yes, epoxy. At one of our church ladies’ events we had a craft demonstration involving gluing a china plate onto a candlestick to make a beautiful pedestal cake plate, and the woman said only epoxy was strong enough to hold. That should do it!

  4. I have heard that your manicurist (err, a manicurist who does acrylic nails) has glue that is strong enough to repair glass like this (and to create new combinations, like crystal and china).

    It’s very pretty!

  5. Hi Ellen B.,

Hubby says 5 minute Epoxy Resin made by Loctite will work beautifully. It cleans up with ordinary vinegar and Hubby does all my china-glass repairs so beautifully!

I hope you have a wonderful one! Do you and Dear have any fun plans? I think we’re going to chase the sunset to Palos Verdes. There’s a gorgeous overlook high on the hill and my favorite Brooch store in between :).

    Happy Valentine’s Day!

  6. Ellen, that exact same thing happened to me. The cake plate was round, but I doubt that makes a difference. I wonder where I put that thing, I should read the comments left. .
Oh. .and happy Valentines Day. . .your table setting is just picture perfect.
