Early Morning Walk at Emma Wood State Beach

Dear and I arrived for our Saturday walk early again this week and because the tide was too high to walk on our regular route we walked along the dunes in the opposite direction headed toward Surfer’s Point.

After we walked along the dunes we cut across them to the water. This rocky driftwood carpeting is not real easy on the ankles.

This had us scratching our heads wondering “what the heck is it or was it”?

We saw a lot of Godwits and Sanderlings.

This is a section of the beach where the Ventura river empties into the ocean. It was a favorite spot for these herons, seagulls, and godwits.

When we headed back to the dunes to get to our car we were thrilled to see this lone Heron posing for us.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again and again, we cannot exhaust beautiful views of God’s creation.

Photobucket is holding all my photos that I posted on my blog from 2007-2015 hostage and replaced them with big black and grey boxes with threats. So discouraging…as I’m slowly trying to clean up thousands of posts!

  1. I enjoy your walks so much Ellen. It is amazing how the heron posed for you. I remember another doing the same in another post. They must know how great they will look in your photographs. The driftwood and rocks are so beautiful to me but I can see how they would be hard on the ankles.

  2. Hi Ellen,

Great pictures, as always. I think my favorite would have to be the one with the circle in the sand! That looked cool!!! The runner-up would have to be the rocks. I don’t think I have ever seen that many rocks in my life!

    Have a great evening! 🙂

  3. Your walk with all of it’s beauty is a nice break to my day!! The rocks are very interesting but I know they are difficult to walk over!!
Birds were everywhere you went….that is truly a gift to see and share with us!! Thanks!
The book review is pretty cool..Terra helped me out with that..a lot!!
I can hardly wait to get my copy to see it all up close. Advent is a wonderful way to celebrate the coming of Christ!! Let’s share our personal Advent ideas sometime!!

  4. Fantastic photos, especially the one of the heron.

I think that circle thing is a space ship that crashed in the ocean and washed up on shore and was covered by sand.

  5. Beautiful nature! And the round thing . . . could it possibly have been a fire ring or gathering place to view the sunset that became abandoned and filled in with sand and rock???

  6. I love your photos! They remind me of some that I posted up on my blog from Ridgefield (WA) Wildlife Refuge. I am from Hawai’i and much prefer being near the ocean, but Ridgefield is really wonderful.

Thanks for posting such wonderful photos for this “ocean in her veins” local girl…
