The Getty

When Dear and I arrived in Southern California and drove north to Oxnard from the Long Beach airport I took this photo of the Getty museum on the hill close to the Wilshire area of West Los Angeles. Little did I know I would enjoy the museum with our oldest kids, my sister, sister in law and grand niece.

On Tuesday night Josh and Laura asked if I wanted to go along with them to the Getty on Wednesday. My sister Vera had taken the day off so it worked out for all four of us to travel north from Orange County together.

My sister in law, Kelly, nannies her granddaughter Ellie and they joined us at the museum.

As one of my facebook friends said, Josh and Laura make the Getty look good.

Ellie really took to her cousin once removed.

I really enjoyed this painting so I took some close-ups of the bottom and top of the painting.

This painting will be familiar to many. Irises by Vincent van Gogh.

We enjoyed a meal at a cafe on the grounds with so many great choices. Entrance to the museum is free and you only have to pay to park. J. Paul Getty (1892-1976), was an art collector and businessman who used his fortune to create an institution dedicated to the diffusion of cultural knowledge.

Between Christmas and the New Year we had a wonderful day with plenty of sunshine in downtown Seattle. Our plan was to go to the Seattle Art Museum to see their visiting Impressionism exhibit.

There was a sign that caught my eye and made me happy. It said “please take photos”! Just as long as you didn’t use your flash photo taking was allowed.

We left the Impressionist exhibit as the crowds began to arrive and we enjoyed some other areas of the museum.

This painting above is a Monet that was new to me. The painting below is by Renoir.

Peaches on a Plate…The names of a lot of the paintings made me chuckle.

On our way to the museum we had more beautiful sunshine blue skies.

It was a beautiful day to look up at the skyscrapers!

When we go downtown we enjoy lunch at “The Met” The Metropolitan Grill, a favorite Seattle Steak house.

There were still some nice Christmas scenes we enjoyed on our walk back to the parking garage. Speaking of the parking garage we scored big time only paying $6.00 for 3 hours!

There is so much to see at the Chicago Art Museum. Here are the pieces that caught my interest…

“Marc Chagall’s America Windows is one of the most beloved treasures in Chicago’s Art Museum’s vast collection. First debuting at the Art Institute in 1977 and made forever famous less than ten years later by an appearance in the film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the “Chagall Windows,” as they are more popularly known, hold a special place in the hearts of Chicagoans. Following an intensive period of conservation treatment and archival research, the windows returned in 2010 as the stunning centerpiece of a new presentation at the east end of the museum’s Arthur Rubloff building.”

If you are ever in Chicago you shouldn’t miss this great art museum. What I’ve shared is such a small representation of what the museum offers.

We are yearning for sunshine here in the Pacific Northwest. This weather just makes me want to curl up with a good book. I’m enjoying a new to me murder mystery series by Anne Perry. Today I’m looking forward to meeting up with the gals from my Bible Study Tuesday group for a casual lunch in Lake Forest Park. It will be nice to see them and do a little catch up.

Marvelous, Mysterious, Masterpieces…

It’s time for the letter M in Jenny’s Alpabe-Thursday.

This is fire etched wood relief called The Adoration of St. Joan of Arc, 1896, J. William Fosdick. This first series of photos were taken at the National Portrait Gallery.

Sadly I didn’t take photos of all the descriptions of the art and I didn’t have my museum husband or daughter with me who read everything in museums to help me out. OYE!

This was so mysterious and sad. This is a bronze memorial of Henry Adam’s wife “Clover”. She committed suicide in 1885 by drinking chemicals used for processing photographs. Adams commissioned Augustus Saint-Gaudens to create this memorial of his wife.

I’m going to be traveling out and about being a tour guide for the next few days. I’ll try to visit sometime this weekend.

We were so excited that the U.S. Women beat France on Wednesday to go to the World Cup Finals on Sunday. They will be playing Japan who beat Sweden on Wednesday. Go U.S.A.!
