Summer is Flying Hodgepodge

Another Summertime Hodgepodge is here with thanks to Joyce From This Side of the Pond.

1. August 19th is National Aviation Day…do you like to fly?

I do enjoy reaching special destinations by plane.

Last time you were on an airplane?

We flew to Southern California in May for our dear friend’s Memorial Service.

The date is chosen in honor of the history and development of aviation, and celebrated on the birthday of Orville Wright. Have you ever been to the Kitty Hawk area of North Carolina? The city of Dayton in Ohio (their birthplace)

No to both.

2. In what area of your life do you tend to ‘wing it’? Is this an area you should be winging?

Lately I’ve been in winging mode for meals at our country bungalow. I don’t know about should be, it is a phase.

3. A favorite book, song, or movie that relates to flight in some way?

I do still enjoy Leaving on a Jet Plane by John Denver.

This video was from August 19th, 1972!

4. Soft serve, gelato, sherbet, frozen yogurt, or good old fashioned ice cream…what’s your pleasure? Your favorite flavor? How often do you indulge?

Orange sherbet is a favorite. As far as old fashioned Ice Cream goes, Häagen-Dazs Coffee chip is a favorite.

5. I never get tired of______________________.

I never get tired of seeing our family and spending time with them.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

  1. I feel like meals are an easy candidate for “winging” especially when the household is down to two people. My daughter in college has some strong opinions about dinner/food (which is fine!) so this summer I’ve not winged meals as much. When she’s back at school and just my husband and I are at home, I know I will wing meals more because I can! The verse and image are really good for your random thought.

  2. I think I would get over my fear of flying if I had someone to visit where I had to fly. I hadn’t thought of Leaving on a Jet Plane. I remember it from the movie Armageddon and loved it then.

  3. I didn’t think about Leaving On A Jet Plane, but I love that song. Seems most of us are winging meals this summer so you’re in good company. And like you say, this phase will pass. Have a great day!

  4. I’ve been on a plane quite a few times but have no desire to any longer. 🙂

I remember and like that leaving on a jet plane too.

  5. Delightful! It’s getting to be a long time since I was on a plane. I used to love airports and people watching. Great places to see all of humanity. Thanks for another great hodge podge Ellen. Happy day to you 🙂

  6. I’ve been freestyling my dinner game lately, or “winging it” and the results have been more “culinary chaos” than “master chef.” It’s probably time to stage an intervention with myself and plan some meals, hunt down fresh recipes, and give the old family favorites a much-needed update. It’s a toss-up -Sometimes I whip up something amazing on a whim, but then when I try to repeat it I have forgotten the measurements. I think I watch too many cooking shows, thinking I can just get in there and create.

I haven’t flown for a while, and I think I’ve gotten used to not flying. Oh, I’ll fly again. I like the flying part, just not the airport and all of that I could do without. I don’t have the patience. My husband keeps wanting us to fly free because he is retired military. It’s called Space A travel. You have to be very flexible and is perfect for retirees. We’ll see. He wants the adventure and I just want to get there.

  7. “Winging” meals is happening here these days, too. Summer seems right for doing that. I like raspberry sherbet better than ice cream, but rarely indulge.

I read all comments and appreciate them.
