May the hodgepodge questions entertain your brain, thank you to Joyce.
1. What’s something you may do this month?
Drop some pounds…
2. Hola! Hodgepodge Day lands just after Cinco de Mayo… how do you feel about Mexican food? What’s your favorite dish? Do you make it at home or is it a strictly dine out option?

Mexican food might be my comfort food. I don’t think I have an absolute favorite dish out but we choose the restaurant on whether they make a good salsa which is always served up with chips on the table. We do make some dishes at home like tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, guacamole, pico de gallo and margaritas.
3. When the children of today grow up what do you think they’ll say about this time period? What do you most hope they remember?
I think Covid will be something they will never forget not only because of the sickness and lives lost but also all the false information and lies circling around that time that were devastating to relationships and mental health.
I want our Grands to remember the rich time they have had learning about God’s love for them and all the love that their parents, uncles, aunts and grandparents showered on them, too.
4. What advice would you give a new mother?
Cherish all the seasons of growth and find joy in the current season even if it is a difficult one.
It is okay and beneficial in many circumstances to say NO.
5. What’s a phrase your mother often said to you? If you’re a mom do you say it to your own children?
No phrase from my mother comes to me. I’ll ask my siblings if they can remember anything.
Now that I’ve read some of your answers for this question, I do remember a phrase that we heard growing up. It was in Russian but the gist was “It will heal by the time you are married!” I might have said this same thing a few times…
6. Insert your own random thought here.
May already has given us lots to enjoy and it’s only been around for 6 days!

An overnight visit from Uncle and Auntie!

We were able to cast a live you-tube of our Great Nephew’s Senior Composition Recital.

We were all blown away by his talent.

Graduation is this Friday.
Hope that your May has started out well, Hodgepodgers and other visitors here!
Congrats to your grand nephew! He must be super talented and I can see how you’re proud of him. I think one silver lining about Covid and kids, older kids such as teens, anyway is that they saw how oppressing an overreaching government can be. They developed a healthy skepticism of “experts” and the news coming out of mainstream media. I think many turned more conservative as a result and began getting their news from other sources. My own kids realized that mom and dad have a bit of wisdom in them as everything we believed about Covid has turned out to be true. Don’t get me wrong, much harm was done to kids during this time and I’d like to see someone held accountable. But I do think some good things came of it :).
Good luck with dropping the pounds. Covid was such a bad time with all of the worry and everything else going on. It does look like May has been a good month for you already!
Oh, how special that you were able to live stream the Composition Recital of your great nephew’s. That’s so awesome. And isn’t technology like that so rewarding at times? Our oldest granddaughter graduated with honors from Northeastern University’s College of Engineering last week and we were able to live stream that as well.
Hello,
Congratulations to your great nephew.
I liked your answer to #4!! It is okay to say NO!
We have snowflakes falling here in Wisconsin this morning.
Have a great day!
Congratulations to your nephew! I have great admiration for those with musical talent. I always say I’ll be able to sing in tune in heaven : ) I am so with you on dropping some pounds. Now to figure out how??? Happy Mother’s Day to you!
I think we would all like to drop some pounds. Good luck. That dish of food looks delicious. Yes, the false information was something that should never have happened. Nice advice for a new mother. That is true about a sore healing before you get married. Love your random thought. Cute picture and how fun to have company. That’s awesome about your great nephew.
Sweet family photos and how wonderful you attended your great-nephew’s recital. That would have been amazing. Another great hodge podge, always fun and interesting.
I may drop some pounds in May too – I’m working on it! Hope you’re successful in that!
I hope my kids (who were all young adults and teens at the time) will remember that we stood up for what we believed was right and reasonable during all the upheaval of covid, and that we did our best to be generous and gracious even when we disagreed with others, or were mistreated by others because of the stand we took. I hope we set a good example of living well and living by godly principles, because sometimes it was hard to know what to do!
I didn’t think about phrases my mum said in German, maybe I would have remembered something if I’d considered that!
Hope you’re having a great week, and especially that you have a great Mother’s Day!
…Blogger can be such a pain, this post just appeared on my reader list. I preferr to be early and not late.Pheasant’s Eye Daffodil (Narcissus poeticus), are a favorite of mine!
The daffodils in your opening photo are stunners! We love Mexican food too. There is a Mexican restaurant rather close to us that is a go-to spot. Great advice for new moms! I remember my mom quoting the Scripture, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that will he also reap.” I didn’t always want to hear it, but it is truth and it made me aware that my actions had consequences. It is wonderful that you were able to participate in your nephew’s composition recital! Congratulations to him!
Wishing you and your family a great Mother’s Day celebration!
