Fifty One Years

A few words from Susannah Spurgeon on this day, Greg and my 51st Wedding Anniversary.

I can see two pilgrims treading this highway of life together, hand in hand—heart linked to heart. True, they have had rivers to ford, and mountains to cross, and fierce enemies to fight, and many dangers to go through; but their Guide was watchful, their Deliverer unfailing, and of them it might truly be said, “In all their suffering he also suffered, and he personally rescued them. In his love and mercy he redeemed them. He lifted them up and carried them through all the years.”

Mostly, they went on their way singing…

Susannah Spurgeon

Update: Thank you, everyone for all your kind wishes. I appreciated reading each comment and your thoughts!

  1. “On their way singing” ❤ — I was just reading in Ephesians 5 the exhortation to be “singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord,” and thinking of what a good way singing is to redeem the time; it’s a sustaining gift to have a voice to sing aloud, too. Congratulations on reaching another milestone on the path to the Kingdom.

  2. Oh HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! You two look great in the selfie at the top of your post. I am so happy for you. What a wonderful, wonderful difference is made when Jesus our Lord holds a marriage together!

  3. Oh, look at this happy couple when they are about to embark on the celebration of their 51st wedding anniversary! I love it!

And, Ellen, what a lovely way to honor those 51 years with a poem by Susannah Spurgeon. I always enjoy her writing…and this one is especially special. xx

    Happy Anniversary to you two!
