Window Views Hodgepodge

In answering question #1 in today’s Hodgepodge, I mentioned that one of the best things about our home are the window views.

Wednesday Hodgepodge is here again, Thank you, Joyce.

1. Let’s do our gratitude question first this week…what’s the best thing about your home, and have you taken time to enjoy it lately?

Our views are one of the best things about our home. After living for years in tract homes where you could almost touch your neighbor it is wonderful to see trees and fields and mountains out of our windows. We are also entertained with wildlife out our windows.

2. Do you like squash? Of the varieties listed, which one’s your favorite and how do you like it prepared? Is squash of some sort on your Thanksgiving menu??

Sweet Potatoes/Yams baked with butter and brown sugar topped with marshmallows is a favorite at Thanksgiving.

acorn, butternut, delicata, spaghetti, zucchini, crookneck (yellow squash), patty pan

Butternut Squash Soup is another favorite.

3. Last time you were ‘squashed in’ somewhere, or felt squashed?

My favorite kind of squashed.

4. Have you ever played squash? What about other ‘racquet sports’ such as racquetball, tennis, pickleball, badminton, table tennis (ping pong)? Are these sports something you enjoy?

In a time long long ago I played some tennis, badminton, Ping Pong and pickleball. I might have even tried to play racquet ball once. I enjoyed them but that is in the past tense.

5. Something in today’s society or culture that feels like a ‘racket’ to you? If you don’t like that one, tell us about a place you’ve been recently where there was a lot of ‘racket’.

There is always a lot of racket when I’m at Irish dance class with Addy on Thursdays. This is true especially when they are practicing with their hard shoes!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

My first Fall puzzle was not easy. A thousand piece puzzle of Shakespearean Insults.

‘Leave thy vain Bibble Babble’

And with that I’ll say adieu, Hodgepodgers and all who visit here.

  1. Your views are great! I love your kitchen windows with the view and the cake stands on display. What a clever spot for the cake stands. That is a great dance pic- I can imagine that racket. When my daughter tap danced, I loved the sound of it but I always felt kinda bad for the dance teachers when the students were young and just learning to tap. You know the teachers heard a lot of taps when there shouldn´t be tap sounds! Have a great day!

  2. Ellen, I loved everything about this post from the beautiful butternut squash soup to you being squashed by your grands! Lovely!

  3. Now I want to use “leave thy vain bibble babble” in a conversation today – hahaha! You do have exceptional views. I love when you post photos so we can all see, too!! Looking at the picture of you being “squashed” between the grands made me smile and made me think of something. When I was writing and answering the questions on my blog, I should have written about Mark “being squashed.” We still have pews in our traditional sanctuary at church and he loves to be surrounded by family and close friends and for folks to be shoulder to shoulder – almost squashed in.

  4. I’m all about a great view and you certainly have one there! That butternut squash soup looks so delicious. I love the pom seed topping and will have to remember that. Being squashed by grands is the best. Have a great day!

  5. What a beautiful view from your home. All that space is amazing!
I love the sound of the sweet potatoes! We never have them like that over here in England which seems like a real shame.
How adorable to be squashed by those cuties!
Oh wow! That puzzle does look like quite the challenge!

  6. Those are lovely views. Your recipes on Thanksgiving look and sound delicious. Yum on the soup too. Love your favorite squash!!! How nice that she’s doing an Irish dance. Love the puzzle.

  7. Wow – that puzzle looks like a challenge! I love the colors in it! And Irish dance sounds like so much fun!! I enjoyed your squashed photo:)

  8. I can only think “WOW” when I see that puzzle. What an accomplishment! And that picture of you being squashed is too adorable. My grands have outgrown that and my greats are too scattered and young for it. But I do miss it. Yes, your view is such a blessing. I would never tire of seeing it. We live in the DFW Metroplex with traffic, emergency vehicles and airplanes overhead, and yes, neighbors right close by. But this is where God placed us for a time and we could not be happier. There are also so many advantages that we might not have elsewhere. We are content and blessed.

  9. Maybe spectacular is the wrong word. It’s not the particular scenery that is so special, though it is truly lovely. A better word for what strikes me is thrilling. That is how I would find the way the windows bring the outdoors in. Thanks for sharing this happy place of yours.

  10. What a gorgeous view! I’m trying not to be jealous, because I miss the view we had at our last house, and there isn’t a view at all here. Who knows what our next place will offer? That puzzle is so much fun – I’m not a puzzle person, but I could probably be persuaded to work on that one. Sorry I’m so late commenting this week but I did enjoy reading!
