Huckleberry Season!

It’s Huckleberry season around these parts and our Colville kids found a good spot for picking them. It’s not for the faint of heart.

Steep terrain is a given when picking.

I’m glad they went before the fires started.

Nearly 7,000 acres have burned between Kettle Falls and Northport, Washington, with no containment of the fire as of Thursday morning, fire officials said.

The Hope fire, burning near Northport Flat Creek Road and 15 Mile Creek Road on the north side of the Columbia River, has grown to 6,764 acres with level 3 evacuations, meaning to leave immediately, remaining in effect. The fire is about 15 miles north of Kettle Falls.

Wednesday evening the winds were blowing in our direction so it was very smoky making our eyes hurt. Thursday we did not get that same level of smoke. We saw helicopters flying all day for water drops. We’ve been in the shop working hard getting everything ready for our Garage sale today and tomorrow. That is why you haven’t heard much from me. I hope to catch up with y’all next week.

Have a great Friday!

  1. Cute kiddies! The wildfires sound scary, I hope you and your family stay safe.

Good luck with your garage sale. Take care, have a great day and a happy weekend!

  2. There’s an area a couple of hours away from us where my husband’s family used to go huckleberry picking every year. Such fond memories.

Praying for those affected by those fires.

Praying also for your garage sale!

  3. I don’t think I knew there was a thing called Huckleberries so I just looked them up. What a fun memory for the kids. We have blackberries growing in our backyard, those will be ready next month. Then comes the cobbler! I like the kids ‘war paint.’ 🙂 That fire sounds scary. Praying you aren’t affected by it. And that you have a very successful garage sale! Have a good weekend.

  4. All that smoke — I’ve been through that with fires in Colorado the last few years we lived there. Very hard!

    Enjoy those fresh berries!!!

  5. Huckleberry picking is a labour of love. It sounds like the grands rewarded themselves well along the way, judging by those faces. Fun times! I hope the garage sale is going well, and that the fires soon abate.

  6. Oh, those huckleberries are so much fun to pick. It sure is exhausting though!! I’m sorry to hear that the fire is in your neighborhood, praying that they can get it out or contained quickly!!! Have a wonderful yard sale, its always a lot of work but great to clean out and make more room! Blessings to you!

I read all comments and appreciate them.
