Lavender is Buzzing

The bees enjoy lavender and our bushes are waning but they were full and fragrant through the end of July and into August.

Hummingbirds have a buzz of their own and they really love this new feeder we picked up at an estate sale. I have not been able to keep up with them with this feeder. We have had 5 at a time trying to push off others to get their turn.

The old feeder is okay when the new one is full of visitors.

A rare moment to enjoy this one all by itself.

This week we are having Vacations Bible School at our church and my job is to sell the t-shirts and hats each evening. At only $7 dollars they go fast. We don’t make a profit and probably even take a hit because of what we sell them for but it makes it more affordable to all.

Hope you are all having a good week.

  1. I love your garden. Maybe not as much as the bees do, but it is very well designed. Question: do you or your near neighbors have bee hives?

How do you get the hummingbirds to come?? I haven’t had more than ONE come around!

    • We do not have bee hives and I don’t think our closest neighbors have hives. We put out the hummingbird feeders and they just show up. We see them enjoying some of the flowering plants in the yard, too, so that might be what attracts them initially. They also can find protected areas here to have nests, although we’ve never seen a nest.

  2. Ellen, I have never been able to grow lavender here and I have tried several times. I’m not sure what my problem is. But yours is so pretty.

Aren’t hummingbirds fun to watch? I just fed mine again this morning. We have two feeders as well…one is a ceramic one from Williamsburg and the other one is one we picked up at Menard’s. It’s very similar to the one that you bought at an estate sale. That’s the one where all of the “attacks” take place.

    • Dianna, That feeder had a short life and we had to trash it yesterday. I don’t think we’ll replace it with another ‘fighting’ model. 🙂

  3. Your garden is so beautiful. I think I would like to sell hats and t shirts during VBS, but others always get that ‘job’ before me. 🙂 Have a fun week!

  4. I love lavender! It smeel so good. I grow it in my back and front yards. It is one of the few things the deer will not eat and the birds like to eat the seeds when the flowers dry up.
