Before the Fires…

We were celebrating just across the water from where the Boyds Fire would start one week later. You never know what a day may hold.

Love this photo of our sweet Addy looking up at her Great Granny and Great Uncle Scott.

We have made trips back and forth across the Cascade Mountain Range from Western Washington to Northeastern Washington for every weekend in August. We know the route along I-90 and Highway 395 North like the back of our hands. Since the Boyds fire and other fires in Washington State and British Columbia started the skies have been smoke filled and unhealthy to very hazardous. This weekend was no exception. We left for Colville early Saturday morning and the skies were smoke filled from Seattle to Colville, 350 miles of smoke filled skies. It is disheartening to say the least. On our way back to the Seattle area on Sunday we started with very smoke filled skies in Colville to Spokane and then traveling west we had relief. We had rain on Snoqualmie Pass which was a blessing to experience. Here in the Seattle area the air is clear again and we’ve enjoyed some light rain.

We will be making the round trip again on Labor Day Weekend. Still praying and hoping the fires will be contained and that Northeastern Washington will experience their beautiful clear skies again soon. Looking forward to future weekends when we can stay put!

Hope all is well in your corner of the world.

  1. Those matching dresses are adorable! I think we had one day of clear skies around here, then it was right back to smoke. I think our summer is about over but we haven’t been able to enjoy it because of the fires. I’m grateful though that we haven’t had to deal with the actual fires. I hope your family has been safe too.

  2. Air quality affects so many activities, it is distressing, even more so perhaps than the destruction of the forests themselves – they will eventually re-generate. We do not have it as bad as you, but for the first time in my life I have started monitoring an Air Quality website to decide if it is safe for me to run outside. And I think about all the folks in this area that rely on opening their windows at night for the cooling breezes – but now they get particulate as well …. we are all praying for precipitation!

    • Angie, we hear that there was some precipitation in northeastern Washington for which we are really grateful. Our son was able to go outside with our granddaughter today and enjoy some outdoor activities…finally.

  3. The little girls are adorable!
The sky here is lovely and clear today and there is no smell of smoke in the air. It is still very bad in the interior, though, and I shudder when I read that we are in for more summers like this one.

    • Hello dear Pondside, another good reason for us to make sure we get air conditioning with good particulate filters! Hope you enjoy your beach walks!
