We take time to stop and remember the sacrifices that have been made for our freedom.
This weekend we remember those who served our country and died in combat. This is the Veteran’s Memorial at the Riverside National Cemetery in Southern California.
Part of our family was able to spend some time at this cemetery in May of 2012. Dear’s father is buried here and we had never seen his grave marker.
There were many sobering monuments at this National Cemetery. The Veterans Memorial was one of them. Another sobering monument was the POW/MIA monument.
We remember that this isn’t just a long weekend and a barbecue but a significant time that has been set aside on our calendars to acknowledge that sacrifices have been made for our nation and our well being.
We do also plan to celebrate the living this weekend with a barbecue timed strategically between the rain showers! What are your plans?

I’ll add my comment to the others – moving and compelling sculptures. Ones that evoke the horrors of war.
Truly sobering. That POW/MIA statue just makes me want to cry. It is still so far out of my grasp to understand man’s inhumanity against man.
We’ll be visiting the cemeteries to take flowers to Daddy, Ramon’s Dad, and other family members. We’ll have to do it on the fly since we, too, are dodging raindrops here over the next week or so.

My dad, father -in-law and hubby all served in the military. My dad was wounded in combat, so I know a little about the sacrifices made for our freedom! I will be enjoying our new Little H and helping his mom and dad between the snuggles!! 🙂
