The Calm Before…

…the Fireworks! Was it just me or did you feel like the fireworks were more plentiful and louder this year ? Here’s what our calm and quiet fourth looked like at this old house…

It’s good to keep the celebrations going all year long.

Fourth of July Decorations3After a few days of hot hot weather here in the Seattle area the fourth was overcast and cool. We were hoping that the sun would break through the clouds before our 4:00 P.M. party time and it did.

Fourth FestivitiesFourth of July 2013 we had the traditional eight to celebrate.

Fourth Festivities1The signature drink for 2013 was shaken up by Dear and enjoyed. Steve and Lana brought a new red for the wine drinkers to enjoy.

Fourth Festivities2Dear smoked pork for pulled pork sandwiches and our guests all brought sides to share.

Fourth Festivities3My contribution was a trifle with strawberries and blueberries. We really do love our red, white, and blue!

How did you celebrate the “Fourth” this year or do you have some summer celebrations you are looking forward to?

And for the record…I was in bed when the fireworks were in full force loudness.

  1. Very festive and sounds like quite a party if the fireworks are louder than ever before! (Our poor cat hasn’t come above four inches tall since the festivities began. She looks as if she’s crawling across a mine field.) Now that pulled pork looks delicious!

  2. Looks like you had a good time and ate well! Hubby and I did a little shopping, grilled steaks and ribs and watched our Braves play. We chose to keep it simple since we just returned from vacation. One good thing…we have leftovers for today!! šŸ™‚

  3. Every single dish looks 100% tasty!!! I’m glad the weather cleared up enough for you guys to enjoy your outdoor celebration. The weather didn’t cooperate in a lot of parts of the U.S. as I understand it. It was very warm here with lots of sunshine. We stayed indoors, and I went to be early. Surprised that I slept through all the fireworks because yes…they DID seem louder and more plentiful this year! Maybe because I’m getting older. Everything just seems so loud to me these days. šŸ™‚

I’m glad you enjoyed the holiday. Have a wonderful weekend. Oh….and I love the flags decorating the fence line. That’s cool!

  4. Great views of your deck and decorations, Ellen. Yes, it did seem like there were more fireworks, at least in my neighborhood. The cats did not approve at all.

  5. I love,, love your decorations and the red white and blue liberally distributed all throughout the yard and table settings. Great job Ellen – how much time did you spend thinking this all out and preparing for it? I’m sure it made your guests feel very loved and welcomed. God bless America and God Bless our American sistah!.

  6. That looks like it must have been a lot of fun. We could certainly take a page from your holiday decorating style! It’s great!

  7. Ellen, I just got here now… and I have to say, you sure know how to celebrate your holiday!
And the fact that you did not use renovations as an excuse to skip, possibly made it fun in a unique way! All the best with the “nest” preparations.
