This was our first true summer weekend here in the Pacific Northwest. The sun has been shining brightly since the 4th of July. We finally just puttered about the yard and stayed home.
After I finished my puttering inside I sat out in the shade to keep an eye on Dear while he was up on those high ladders.
He worked on the trim on the garage. Thankfully he was shaded most of the time.
I think pansies and violas are the sweetest little flowers. They make me smile.
I still have a few more pots that need some fresh flowers in them. On Sunday there was one more project I needed to get done.
Rosella reminded me that it was time to add our next layer of fruit to our topfs! Rosella’s is Rumtopf and mine is Smirntopf! We both added cherries. I know I have a cherry pitter somewhere that Dear’s mother owned but it’s probably tucked away in the attic so I improvised and used a fondue fork to pit my cherries. You were right Rosella…it’s not easy to pit cherries and it’s good to wash a load of dishes when you are done so you can get the cherry juice stain off your hands and fingernails! My blueberries aren’t quite ready to pick yet so they will wait till the next layer…
This is the beginning of a very busy week for me with travel to Canada for 3 days included. I don’t know how often I’ll be checking in. Still praying for those of you suffering in the hotter than normal temps and for the areas that are desperate for some rain. May God shade you and refresh you with his rain…

Lovely weekend indeed! So glad you are finally getting summer. Your Topf is going to look so nice in that beautiful jar. Safe travels to Canada (yeah!!!!).
I LOVE seeing all your pretty green colors and flowers. My farmer friends say their crops are DEAD. A few have irrigation lakes which are now DRY. Rain started up north of us, fell apart, then reorganized just south of us. )c: Such are the cycles of life. I’m about ready to give up trying to keep more than the newly planted rose bushes alive. Time to move on and so very thankful for air conditioned homes. We are getting our youngest daughter ready to move two states away in a couple of weeks so we’ve been going for weeks spending time together and doing things to get her ready. GULP. I know the quiet weekend will come…..the cycles of life. So thankful we have a loving God to carry/lead/walk us through all that comes in life. Safe travels this week. Joy to your week.
My German grandparents made something like your Topf, but they called it Boozey Fruit. A made-up name to be sure, but that fruit was really good on ice cream. Enjoy your Canada travels.

Glad you had a weekend to just “chill”! BTW, we are on the east coast….about 3 1/2 hours from our house.
Oh it is about time! And in true weekend warrior fashion, when a good weather weekend shows up, your hubby went straight to work on some projects. It’s always the way. We stayed home as well and I just loved it. LOVED it.
I love those stay at home weekends, whether we get projects done or just chill out together! Glad you got to enjoy one with your hubby.

It is nice to see the sun shining there, Ellen! Thankfully our hot weather has cooled down quite a bit to a comfortable 70’s…whew!

The end of a hair pin works pretty well to pit cherries. Just slip it in the top and hook over the pit and pull.
