Thanksgiving Came Early…

…at our house this year. As I think over the last few years this early celebrating has become somewhat of a tradition. When you have adult children that are hither and yon you learn to seize the moment when you come together and celebrate.

There were eight of us at our early gathering.

My turkey was ready earlier than expected. No problem because everyone was ready to eat early.

Thanksgiving food is such a nice shade of golden beige. Hilarious. I do not feel the need to add something green like a salad because there is never any room on the plate anyway. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it! To solve that pesky “something green” problem I used a green tablecloth and green goblets!

Our kids, my sister and her husband, Dear and I made up the 8 guests. When Josh prayed for our meal he also prayed for our missing family member who is overseas serving his country and all of us. We missed you Andrew!

One week and Katie and I fly to North Carolina. Time will tell how often I’ll be posting the next month. If you don’t see anything new around here you know I’m busy checking out a part of the country I’ve never been to before, helping Katie find the things to make her new home comfortable, and getting ready for Christmas.

Hope life is treating you well. For those of you in the states a very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

I’m linking up with Mary at Little Red House for Mosaic Monday.

  1. Beautiful table and from your post – a hostess with the mostest! Yummy looking dinner! Do have a fabulous visit and a very Happy Thanksgiving week! Love Pam’s ‘Grace for the journey.” Would love to have that phrase in wooden letters in a lovely font! I’ve got the perfect spot for that in our new little apartment! So thankful for God’s grace for our journey!

  2. Looks like you had a wonderful family time together. The next few weeks are going to be busy for you. I imagine going to NC with Katie will be exciting and a little bittersweet.

  3. I love that your Thanksgiving traditions keep the meal predictable and low-stress 🙂 Hoping you’ll have a productive, fun, memory-making time with Katie next week. Happy Thanksgiving!

  4. I was thinking the same thing about our Thanksgiving dinner, that there would be no green. I like how you solved that problem – your table is so pretty. I love your candle cups!

Happy Thanksgiving and may this month be joyous for you and your family.

  5. Your table and feast looked fantastic, no wonder there were all those happy smiles on your family’s faces. Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your trip to North Carolina…..very exciting times ahead!

  6. Getting together with loved ones is the most important part of the holiday. You set a beautiful table, Ellen. And the love around the table is the perfect accompaniment to all that wonderful food.

Have a great trip – as Pam said, grace for the journey.

  7. The most important thing of all is being together to celebrate and express your thanks for a good past year. You will certainly have a busy time ahead, but you and Katie are sure to have a good time setting up house in anticipation of Andrew’s return.

  8. What al ovely holiday you had. Yes- when your kids are grown with lives of their own, you have to celebrate when the opportunity presents itself. The important part of any celebration is being with family and friends – no matter what date it is. I love your family pictures although there is definitely one missing. Our prayers are with Andrew as he serves his country.

  9. You made me laugh…beige food. What happened to the cranberry sauce? Oh everything looks beautiful and most of all, the family looks so happy. A great-looking bunch if ever there was one!

  10. Your Thanksgiving table looks beautiful .. as does the food! Yummy!
Thinking about you with your heart spread out in different states and countries.

  11. I loved your Thanksgiving meal. And you know what? We don’t have green salad when we have hot turkey…it’s too much, besides gravy does not complement salad.
I hope you have a wonderful time away with Kate. How exciting.
It looks like you captured the family at the right moment.

  12. Your table looks beautiful. Your food looks beautiful and yummy! I was trying to get a close-up look at your china, the pattern. What is it? And on your food mosaic, what is the golden brown dish on the top right, next to the meat? It almost looks like rolls except for the variation in size…I’m curious.
I also wonder how you got all thos 13×9’s in and out of the oven at the same time! How many ovens do you have? I am trying to figure this out for Thursday, with 1 oven, 1 microwave, and 1 slow cooker, and some do-aheads…
Very beautiful and so tempting. I wish mine were all over, too. Then I’d be really thankful!

    • Hollace,
I’ll reply here and try to send an email, too. My dishes are Yorkshire, Staffordshire, England, Ironstone. There is a hay wagon scene on them. The dish on the top right is yams with marshmallows on top. I have a double oven. The turkey was out of the top oven and we let it sit for a while before carving it so there is a good 30 minutes for the side dishes to get ready. The yams are pre-boiled so I slice them and put them in the casserole dish pour a butter brown sugar mix over them add the marshmallows on top. At this point 30 minutes is plenty of time.

  13. Ellen, everything looked beautiful – so fall-like! I will be praying for you all in the weeks ahead. Remember, enjoy the journey. God is in control!

  14. Ellen, your thanksgiving dinner table is just marvellous… and the photos look like they’re straight from the movie… Great set design! The people too, you all are just a gorgeous family. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! And have a great trip to N.C. with Katie. Hope to see lots of pics from there in the future.
