This post will be loaded with photos so don’t say I didn’t warn you.
I’m joining Jenny for Alphabe-Thursday for the Letter L.
I’m gathering all my photos that I took while I was in D.C. in May of Abraham Lincoln. I’ll start with the less obvious views around D.C. and end with the Lincoln Memorial.
The spot where life ended tragically for our 16th President.
I’m adding humorous quotes from here on out from President Lincoln.
From the National Portrait Gallery…
“Whatever you are, be a good one.”
“He can compress the most words into the smallest ideas better than any man I ever met.”
“When I hear a man preach, I like to see him act as if he were fighting bees.”
“Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”
“When you have got an elephant by the hind leg, and he is trying to run away, its best to let him run.”
“You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.”
Hope your summer is swimming along. We are enjoying some happy weather here in the Northwest!
Photobucket replaced all my photos with blurred out versions and photobucket stamped versions. They are holding my photos hostage until I pay them lots of money. Iām slowly going through all my posts and trying to clean them up and replacing some photos. Such a bother.
Thanks for the ‘Abe tour’! Great quotes too.
We’re getting some lovely weather too!! Thank You Lord!
Love your pics – esp the night-time ones – I notice that Dear has a cane – did I miss something?
Love the 4th pictures too – Katie looks sweet on Skype – I’ve seen those looks with some of mine too š
Your pictures are gorgeous….I LOVE the night shots. The intensity of the colors are amazing.
Terrific photos, and a great “L” word!!
Very interesting post with all those fantastic photos and those fine quotes! Thanks for sharing!
Good ole’ Abe….he really was a wise man!
Ellen, you never have to preface your post with apologizing for too many pictures because your pictures are always so great to look at. š
Abe Lincoln is one of my heroes. Oh where are the ‘honest Abe’s’ today? Ah well, thanks for the pictures and quotes. Perfect timing as we celebrate Independence Day!
The Lincoln Memorial is so pretty at night! I loved getting to see your pictures!
The Lincoln Memorial is a fascinating structure. I was there many, many years ago so know your photos are wonderful. š
Can you believe I’ve never been to DC?
Soon, I will go!
=)
I love your photos of the Lincoln Memorial at night. My son went to college nearby and we would often walk over to the Lincoln Memorial when we visited him. We love Washington, DC!
I didn’t realize the memorial was open 24 hours. Love all the views you’ve taken of it in this post, Ellen.
lovely shots.
Thanks for letting us tag along. It’s been awhile since I’ve been to DC, and your post was a lovely little refresher!
Some of those monuments just bring tears to my eyes.
Thank you for sharing your trip with us.
