Happy Summer to You!
We have sunshine, woohoo!
This is from the 50’s at Big Bear in the San Bernardino Mountains, Southern California. The three families represented here are all Russian immigrants who arrived in the U.S.A. in the late 40’s. I’m the one with the buster brown haircut sitting on the table. At this point I was the youngest in our family. Our next 4 siblings were born in 1958, 1959 and twins in 1963.
To celebrate the first day of summer I’ll be out in the yard mowing and pulling weeds…not camping.
What are you doing?
Photobucket replaced all my photos with blurred out versions and they are holding my photos hostage until I pay them lots of money. I’m slowly going through all my posts and trying to clean them up and replacing some photos. Such a bother.
What a cool photo! Happy yard work! Glad the sun/Son is shining on you today. We’ve had horrid humidity and in the 90’s for a while and here on the first day of summer I have the windows open and cool breezes are blowing. I’ve already been weeding….and if I get motivated I’ll go out and do some more mowing. It takes me 3 days to do our lot. But I may stay inside and clean. I’m actually feeling the urge to clean….that’s rare. (c: Hope your day is grand Ellen!
What a great photo – and warm memories I’m sure. Enjoy the sunshine today.
Love the photo! Are you the one in the overalls in the front?
No Anneliese, I’m sitting on the table with the Buster brown haircut. That’s my cousin Valia in the overalls…
Great photo my friend. Love it. 🙂 I’m working today…pffft…it’s sorta cloudy hear today but I captured a great rainbow on my walk this morning. I posted to my YouTube account 🙂 It was so pretty. Have a great day.
I love that photo, Ellen! 🙂 I have always wanted to ask you if Ellen is a Russian name. Will be working, and getting ready for company in the upcoming summer weeks. 🙂
Ellen isn’t a Russian name but my mother was tired of Russian names when I came along. In Russian you pronounce my name elyena.
I love the picture – I’ll bet many of us have such a photo in their collections.
I’ll be heading up the road to work in Nanaimo this afternoon and evening – a beautiful drive on the first day of summer.
We have a bit of sunshine but no warm weather!! Unseasonably cool for June – I haven’t been swimming yet!!!
That is a great photo, and tells a story. I notice that only the kids are smiling…is that because camping is really more fun for kids than adults?
What a great picture Ellen! We used to camp in the Idyllwild area of mt. San Jacinto.
We finally have sun around in these parts too! And it’s hot.
That is a great picture, Ellen! I soaked up the air conditioning to celebrate the first day of summer this year!
Great photo! How did the weed pulling go?
Ellen, happy you had sunshine for the first day of summer! Love the old photo..how people change!
I see Katie in that picture!!!
