FFF ~ June Already!

Time again for Friday’s Fave Five hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story. When you get to my age it’s good to consider and document good things before they leave your mind forever…

We spent time remembering what Memorial Day Weekend is all about. When you have a loved one serving in the military it impacts you in a more personal way for sure.

Here are my Five Favorites…

1. On Sunday Josh and Laura joined us for smoked ribs, barbecued corn, beans and cornbread. For dessert we enjoyed angel food cake with pudding and fruit. We had a good time together eating and then discussing a book we had read that’s causing quite a stir in the Christian community.

2. On Monday Memorial Day Katie and I went to Sunset Hills Memorial Park and we were happy to catch a great Memorial Day Service with bagpipes, flag ceremonies, a flyover, and a traveling museum of military memorabilia. We enjoyed this framed artwork…

3. Our Rhoddies are blooming brightly!

4. My hairdresser talked about a dish drying mat and I found them at Bed Bath and Beyond. It really works great. It absorbs a lot of water and then dries well and hangs up to be stored.

5. I was happy to get a call from the doctor’s office to tell me everything looked fine from my procedure last Friday and I won’t have to do that again for 7 years! Yippee!

Hope all is well with you and I hope y’all noticed I only mentioned food once this week. If you haven’t entered my cookbook giveaway make sure to scroll down and check it out. The contest ends 6:00 P.M. Pacific Time on Saturday.

Photobucket replaced all my photos with blurred out versions and they are holding my photos hostage until I pay them lots of money. I’m slowly going through all my posts and trying to clean them up and replacing some photos. Such a bother.

  1. I must be out of the loop, I haven’t heard about a book causing a stir….kind of thankful for that. Some days I think I’ll just ignore everything except the Bible. But I know God speaks amazing encouragements to people through books. Your Rhoddies are gorgeous. And I have never heard of that dish mat….interesting.

  2. Love that art piece!

Yes, one does really notice everything differently and feel more deeply when there is a loved one (or two) in the military.

    Have a happy weekend 🙂

  3. Great photos Ellen.
I loved the framed tags as well as the beautiful flags on the green grass.
I just bought on of those mats as well. What a great idea.

  4. Love this five, Ellen. We have our Memorial Day, called Remembrance Day here, in November. But no matter the month it’s always good to remember and honor those who serve or have served. Love the artwork.

I’ll have to look for that dish mat when we go to the big city that has that store.

  5. Hi, Ellen! Lovely to be back and catching up with you here after our travels. It was wonderful to be home for Memorial Day–had picnic with my family–great fun! LOVE that framed dog tags…very poignant. That fruit salad looks soo good…mmm… After two weeks away I look forward to time in my kitchen, and be in my studio, I’m itching to dig into some creative time now… aftet the jet lag wears off. ;o) Happy Weekend ((HUGS))

  6. Ellen,

Another great week! So glad your bill of health checked off! I have seen the dish drying mat, and wondered if it worked…. now, I know how to spend my Bed Bath and Beyond coupon. 🙂

  7. Glad your test came back with good results… you can continue to eat Blintze and coconut shrimp … not at the same time … not all the time… but enjoy your food. So.. now I’m the one who mentioned food.

  8. What a fantastic five this week. I really like all the photos. The food and the flags are my favorites. I’m so happy about your results. That’s great news. Have a wonderful weekend.

  9. I may have to get that recipe for smoked ribs. I want to buy my hubby a smoker for Father’s Day.
    Great photo’s Ellen.

  10. That artwork is SO neat. Love it. And I love all your patriotic photos, too. Sounds like you had a great week.

Scrolling down for the cookbook giveaway as we speak…!

  11. We don’t celebrate memorial days here in Belgium, but every holiday is welcome of course. We had ascension day yesterday, most of the people don’t even know what it is except that they don’t have to go to work, lol !

  12. love your pics!!! yay for good reports and yummy food, family time and remembrances…hm…i wonder which book is causing a stir???? i just read one that some people say is controversial altho i found NOTHING in it to be anything but encouraging, inspiring, and convicting.hm….
    have a great weekend!!

  13. Beautiful photos! I imagine that dish drying mat is a big help!

LOL – I’ve been keeping food out of my FFF list, until this week. The ribs sound delicious and the berries look yummy, too!

So glad to hear that you got good results from your procedure and don’t need to go back for several years! 🙂

  14. Yep, Jeanie and I both have that dish drying mat. Love it. The darker color is better because it can develop stains. Your rhodies are lovely!

  15. Hi Ellen B!
I’m dying to know what book you read that’s causing such a stir. Could you email me the name? My poor brain sticks to things like that and I’ll be obsessing over it until I find out…no pressure, mind you ;-O.

Oh, it looks like you had a great week even without all the food…hee hee!!

    Love, cori g.

OH oH! Did you get my card and the other thing?

  16. Love, love, love the patriotic pictures!!! Would have loved to have joined you for your meal…and I noticed that you “correctly” served corn bread with the beans to get the proper nutritional balance. Go ahead and post what I mean by that, as a Home Economist. I dare you to, from off the top of your head. Something about amino acids, right?

Also: It is not nice to tease a librarian by mentioning a book that “caused a stir” and NOT give the author and title. (Is it the little boy who went to heaven book? I LOVED that book!)

I am going to have to put a fine on your library card for doing that.

    :-p

  17. I have one of those dish drying mats too and I love it. every time my daughter visits she tries to take it home. I really ought to buy one for her on her next visit.
So glad to hear that your procedure went well and that your next appt isn’t until 2018. Does that year sounds strange?
I want some angel food cake with pudding and fruit right now! So glad you didn’t talk about more food in your post. 😉

  18. I use one of those dish drying mats, too. Absolutely love it! In fact, I keep an extra on hand, just in case. 🙂 The rhododendrons look beautiful — we had some at our old house and I miss them (even though the deer often ate them!). Have a great week!
