Susanne has flown the coop but she didn’t leave the nest without getting Friday’s Fave Five ready for all of us. Dear is on vacation this week so we headed to Eastern Washington for an overnight on Monday. Our goal was to check out the area our middle son will be moving to later this year. We had a traffic free journey driving through many small towns. Here are five favorite shots from our trip.
Coming East on Highway 20 from Republic to Colville. I love seeing the layers of mountains.
Looking back at Colville sitting next to the Colville National Forest.
Roosevelt Lake area near Rice, Wa. fed by the Columbia River.
One of the many one store towns we drove through.
We crossed rivers, drove by lakes and saw at least 4 dams on this trip. It was really hot so just seeing the water was a nice relief to the heat. I’d like to do the trip again when it’s cooler and when getting out of the car to walk around and take photos would be more pleasant. Here’s a post with some of the churches we saw.
We’ve had a nice cool down here in Western Washington with some rain expected on Sunday. How are things in your neck of the woods?
Photobucket replaced all my photos with ugly black and grey boxes and they are holding my photos hostage until I pay them lots of money. I’m slowly going through all my posts and trying to clean them up and replacing some photos. Such a bother.
Oh, I love those shoots. It looks so beautiful and peaceful.
Happy FFF!
These views are all stunning. And I thought your goal for the trip was not just sweet, but also a mark of excellent parenting. Happy Friday, Ellen.
Gorgeous photos as always. I especially like the first one – that is a scene I never tire of…..layers of mountains behind layers of trees.
Speaking of trees….are you getting any of the smoke from the fires in BC? It is so heavy here it has affected visibility and the air smells like a campfire. I can’t imagine what it must be like for those who live near the actual fire! Just wondering if the smoke gets south, at all.
We’ve had a very cool August – more like spring, actually, with temperatures in the 70’s rather than 80’s and 90’s.
LOVE that first shot of the layered blue mountains!
Our weather: early morning coastal haze, clearing by midmorning, sunshine the rest of the day. Sunset. Repeat.
I love all your photos! ( I looked at the church ones, too.)
Your trip is just the kind of thing Hubby and I like to do: go driving and take scenery shots. God made such a beautiful world! How could anyone believe all this beauty came from a big bang? It had to come from a Creator!
Wow—what beautiful views! It’s still hot and dry in my neck of the woods so these pictures look especially refreshing. Glad you shared them with us today.
I love love love the skies!
Yay that your son will be closer. If I’m not in a hurry I love little towns like that…so much character. We are roasted, baked and fried to a crackly crunch this summer. But out shopping with a friend yesterday we saw signs that fall will indeed be coming…coats and sweaters!!!! WOO HOO!
Such beautiful photos. We went through Colorado, Utah and New Mexico in the spring and there really is something about the mountains.
I have a google alert for the word Colville so I get lots of interesting sites to check out — like this! Looks like you had good photography weather for your trip here in eastern Washington. It’s like a whole different state when you get east of the Cascades. Drier, longer stretches between towns, fewer people, and any green at this time of year is pretty much pine.
If you come back in the fall, check out the train ride in Pend Oreille County.

These are all such wonderful photos my friend. 🙂 It is so clean and crisp looking. Great FFF 🙂 Weather here is sunny and hot 🙂 I’ll keep it though LOL Have a great weekend 🙂
Gorgeous pictures!
I’m loving the tour down memory lane! Eastern Washington, esp. the Palouse Country is beautiful in the Fall — fields of golden wheat….
Meant to add that layered mountains are one of my favorite things to look at — we’ve been in the Low Country since last February and as we drove into Virginia and saw green rolling hills, I suddenly remembered how much I miss mountains! (They’re really just hills here, nothing like the West, but still, something high in the distance to look at!.
Looks like a beautiful trip, scenery like that is refreshing.
Those mountain “layers” tug at my heartstrings… beautiful views, Ellen! These photos are like a tall cool drink of water… *sigh*… Happy Weekend ((HUGS))
some beautiful scerery there!!!
That first picture just took my breath away. I love mountains.
It’s Sunday and it’s raining. We must be on the same weather pattern.
It looks beautiful, Ellen!
No Fall in the air yet here. Summer sticks around til mid Sept at least.
I remember 9/11 as a perfect summer day. Who could ever forget?
love seeing you in the rearview mirror!!
